Dear fly angler, stop defending this rude individual we see in the video. I don't care how skilled or wise the man is, he's a rude and snobby loudmouth, not someone myself or 95% of the population would want to associate with. There's a reason so many people in the comments are calling him out. You can stand him, good for you, but myself and most others can't. He displayed behaviours that gave us legitimate reasons as to not like him, it's not because we are young knuckleheads as you arrogantly assume. Let us have our opinions on the man, and you can have yours.

This John-dude seems to be so full of air that the only thing tethering him to your boat is your kindness and warm approach. Please for the love of fishing; ditch that negativity and let someone with an ounce of humbleness on the next experiment. You are the most interesting guy to watch even from the other side of the pond. You make me wanna travel 5000 miles to try some goliath. You guys all say that kawa kawa(bonito) is trash and horrible but the truth is that you guys just seem spoiled, kawa can be a trash fish but it all depends on the chef, bad chef not bad fish. We will eat nearly any kind of fish here in Hawaii because we know how to cook them, don't talk on trash fish until you've truly tried it.

The entire video is a tribute to why I hate any form of deep salt water fishing, constantly yelling and having a giant pissing match over the littlest of things getting mad gets you no where but nobody seems to get that, almost everyone that hooked up was pissed about something that was happening as they are fishing

You can't afford a rod like that i think josh could afford a year supply of those rods for trying to land a Goliath. Imma say josh, get some of your own heavy weight fly rod gear, and take this challenge up again. If you got a 2nd guy, who actually helps you lift the rod, you can do it. no doubt.

I think you can get those on a fly. Why wouldnt you let them run a little? I know these fish are huge but part of the technique of fly fishing is knowing what angles to put the pressure on the fish. You guys generated alot of pressure, I think it's totally possible. I'd love to try one time.

Attempting to use inadequate tackle to catch a Goliath is not fly fishing, nor is using bait. You must not have many fly fishing friends with etiquette. Your friend seems like an rich egotistical jackass who clearly doesnt give a rats ass about fish. Truly a cancer to the fly fishing community.

I understand the banter I have a friend we came up through our apprenticeship together and we go back and forth like that if not probably worse I don't see why so many people want to talk crap. Btw John is now at 949 and Tom is 996 happy to follow them and you keep up the great content

You might be able to make it happen. You would need a fly with very stiff bristles, facing forward, so it would keep a large profile in the water. Dip it in a bucket of Berkely gulp juice to give it some scent before throwing. Landing it is another story though.

Fly guy is doing damage control in the comments section. Seems we're all automations for not supporting John's rude and childish behaviour. After all he holds fly fishing world records, so that makes him exempt from criticism. Keep up the good work fly guy
