I do use Shiners all the time but most of the time get a bowfin instead of a bass. I should try to go to that place see can get a nice size bass. If you want to catch a bowfin go to Colt Creek State park north Lakeland FL those bowfin give a nice fight.

All I do in December and January here in MN is fish with shiners on tip-ups. Catch mostly pike, but get the occasional big bass. You got me thinking now that I should maybe try some in the summer.

Same thing happened to me when I was fishing with a jig in a farm pond. I was sure I had the next state record only to find out I caught a huge softshell turtle. Getting my jig out was not fun.

Pro tip: when goose hunting on a frozen lake instead of cutting a giant hole in the ice to open up the water for a landing spot, put out a blue tarp. It works like a charm.

You should go to lake Kissimmee, I went there with a Guide and caught some 5, 6, 7, and even eight pounders. People next to use got a 13 pounder bass.
