Not really worth the effort unless you like tiny returns. We used to catch them three or four inches, gut them and hard fry them. Also Gabe' it is the dull knives that make you slip and cut yourself. If you cut yourself with a sharp knife then you need to redo your -Totin' Chit-
FYI any stainless is harder than D2.
A note: Goliath Grouper A. K. A. juefish are very protected. It is illegal to even target them for catch and release (molest. I imagine even petting them is -molesting- them by law. I am still insensed over Catchem's video where he uses a frozen turkey to bait one and shows off the plastic truss afterr he unhooks the goliath. That could have easily messed up its GI tract.

Those grouper know they are the boss of their world. What an awesome creature to see. Gabe it's so cool to see you getting your boys involved with everything you do. That's how you make them into good men as they grow. Hey open invite when this virus mess is over. You need to come up to lake Erie for some fishing. You'd have a blast.

I-ve never heard -you-re doing great dad- from a freakin 4 year old. This is why I think Luke is smarter than most kids his age, the little guy is fearless, very intelligible, speaks perfectly with no babble or accents like other kids, and he-s freakin BlueGabe-s son! Go Jake and Luke! Keep on keepin on!

Got a question for you divers? The places that the fish/lobster seem to hide also looks like metal fixtures of some kind, so are these rock like hideaways placed there there purposely for them to hide under or does the floor of the ocean make these hideaways naturally from shipwrecks, etc?

I use to catch these when I was a kid when my family vacationed in St. Pete. They fight so hard, I use to think that I had a monster on my line. I didn't realize that they were so good to eat. Next time I catch one, I'm cooking it bluegabe style.

When fishing in Bermuda, the closer we got near the dump at the end of the airport, was caught fish that had bad flesh like the one you caught, so I think it might have been an older fish that just absorbed a lot of toxins from the wreck.

Wow I-ve never seen a fish be skinny from illness, I wish they cut it open fully to check what was going on. I wonder if it was a parasite sucking all the nutrients from its food and body and just starved out the fish til near death

My bad, D2 steel is high carbon with some chromium. It is called kitchen steel. When heat treated it becomes tool steel which is definitely harder than regular stainless. If the knife is flexible then it has not been hardened.
