I was having the same issue. it took 3 years to figure it out. same thing you are going through. ( FUEL RELAY ) take thew cover off - one of you listen by the engine the other one turn the key, see if you hear the High pressure pump come on. if so it will start if not that will be the ( RELAY ). usually on the other side of the engine under the 80 amp fuse you will see the Fuel Relay, Tap that while the key is on and you will hear the pump come on. give it a minute to turn itself off and start the boat. its happend to us after replacing the relay and we went to start after fish an area for a while and no start, I tapped the side of the relay after turning the key on and sure as shooting I heard the pump come on. Its crazy but it works. We have a 2003 Yamaha 200hp Salt water series. it just happened again 2 weeks ago worked all day, and after the 3rd or 4th stop which we fished a good while Ball went soft and couldn't get the gas to pump up turned the key no pump noise and took off the cover tapped it with a hammer lightly and puff, The pump started ans we were good to go. Good Luck

You are getting fuel starvation from a loose object in the fuel system. I suspect the primer ball valve is broken off inside the ball and it's rolling around, and when it gets into a perfect position is clogs the line. Replace the ball and cut it open to inspect.
I doubt water in the gas because your float alarm would be ringing, and it would run like crap when it got into the VST. Because it's spontaneous it's more than likely an loose object in the fuel system.
Good catch and good luck with your boat. I've been in the same situation and it's definitely frustrating. Cheers

Your charcoal canister is full of water or gas. Anytime that happens take the gas cap off and see if it’s in a vacuum. If you over feel will fuel it goes in the charcoal canister, or in heavy seas it can pull water in the vent. Op n gas cap and remove vent. Use a hose/air compressor and blow it backwards. Thank me later

If it happens again, you might have a hole or a split in the fuel line inside the tank near the upper half of the tank. You fill the tank with fuel and it runs fine, but when the fuel level drops below the hole or split it starts to sputter and eventually quits running.

Happened to me last week headed out of the inlet. Had an extra water separator but it turned out that the fuel line connector came off the motor. Thank goodness nothing serious! Couldn't get a red to bite last week. Only AJ's, Bonita and sailfish

Jump on a new vessel, drop a couple hundred thousand and have some fishing fun. Don't cheat yourself in life, go big, spend big and get the best. A thirty foot Scout with quad Yamaha's will get you where the fish congregate.

Vapor lock on the previous breakdown, unhook the gas line, re-hook and pump the bulb, happens often
Make a practice of unhooking and hooking back and pumping, vapor locks are common with outboard motors not a big deal

About your boat problems. I had the same thing happen. Make sure all hose clamps are tit before the primer ball. BUT IF IT HAPPENS WITH A LOWER FUEL SUPPLY IT COULD BE THE FUEL PICK UP TUBE INSIDE YOUR TANK.

Another great video. Brian, great job in keeping the weight off. Looking good, Brother. I started my weight loss around the same time. So far I have lost 202 pounds. I'm down to 194 pounds.

Some fuel lines get soft and partially collapse due to Alcohol in gas.
Another possibility is muck in the tank restricting gas flow.
Good luck with getting it corrected.

Had some thing happen to me before. Had it keep happening. It was my Jerry cans delaminating I was using to fill up. Switched to metal and no problems since I had the tank polished.

Those primer balls were out after a while. There’s a little one-way valve inside them, and if it sticks open, the engine will lose its prime.

I would suggest checking all the clamps on the hose connections, if you lose suction or flow, its usually because of an air leak

Sometimes a gel sludge forms in the gas tank. especially since your boat is 12 years old. and that sludge will clog your gas lines.

If you have an anti-siphon valve on your tank, that could have caused what you experienced. I doubt the screen was the problem.
