Hey guys, I am travelling to TCI (Turks and Caicos) soon. I want to try ocean fishing (I have been fishing since I was a kid but mainly lakes, ponds and rivers - small fish. I bought a travel spin rod (15-40 g from Savage Gear - it's a freshwater rod, do you think it would work with 20g (3-5- lure) soft plastics in flats? Also, I was planning to buy a Daiwa Seahunter Z Travel Boat Rod 30-50lb or DAM Salt-X Travel Boat Rod 300-600g cw. I might only go for one or two boat trips whilst I am there, so most of fishing I will be doing will be probably from the beach or rocks. My questions: 1. What line and lure weight can I use with both rods (The Daiwa doesn't mention CW, only LB rating. 2. Can I use it from beach/rocks or only boat? 3. What fish can I target with these boat rods and on what line: ) It's hard to find specific answers out there. Many thanks,

Talk about windy weather!
Tomorrow will be our first charter out in the ocean since almost 3 weeks ago!
And guess what? It would be one of your favorite charters.
It's a shark trip! Lol.
We do all catch and release on the shark trips unless we get a nice small 5 foot Blacknose or similar shark.
Well anyways my friend on the other side of the pond. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY!
CHEERS!
P. S. - We didn't get to see the Ling AND YOU DISAPPOINTED ME!
I couldn't believe you didn't make a grab for 'Old Faithful' the net! LOL.

Not your day of keeping the fish on the hook. I hear ling is good eating. You got some redemption with the pollack. Pollack is a very much used fish for various products, they are used in frozen fish fillets by major manufactures like Gordons and others, its also used in immitation crab meat in the deli. I have tried it when making a immitation crab salad. I fear with it being commercially over fished that their numbers may decline cause of use of wide troller nets. But by the way you have been hitting the Pollack maybe there are still plenty in the sea.

i catch one or two good fish. Enough for the family then pack it up. I don't fish to freeze for later use, but, in your case, that totally makes sense to me with the cost of fuel to be accounted for. When you fish to freeze one or two it makes good sense. But I really thought pollak was a good eating fish and not a trash fish. Thanks for the heads up. One day, i will come home to my country of citizenship and will definitely follow your practices. i appreciate you are not a sports fisherman but only fish for the table.

If you look -6: 45 and bits you can see the one that got away for a split second. Pretty sure that'll make it even more annoying. How many times I've thought -I'll sort the net in a bit- only to then catch something worth having and then trying to juggle things to retrieve it. Failure to prepare and all that. Still some cracking Pollock in there.

here in Africa we catch Barbel very commonly. I think it is the same fish they call catfish in the rest of Africa and Australia. I tend to release the big one because they dont taste great. But if they are 2 or 3 kg they are a prime eating fish. You just have to ignore the slime and appearance. Im guessing your polluck is a bit like our barbel.

Hi John. Wow what a fantastic day. I was seasick just watching you. Ha Ha. As you well know its called fishing not catching. I alway think just to outside with a rod is all that counts. Great to be in your company once again. It was a bit lumpy there in parts especially when you were lifting the pots. As always Stay safe. Jimmy Dublin 13

Don-t worry John, I-ll let you know when I-m out from next week and you-ll just have to pick the other days! Every trip out this year for me has been like this. The trip back from those fishing grounds has been bumpy to say the least! I had no idea you could -nearly- catch a Ling there though. Looking forward to the summer.

Good video! The lesson of having a net handy has also been learnt by many of us over the years - to the extent that if you want to get into a good fish, leaving the net at home helps your chances! Dare I say it, but on that lure with the solid weighted head, could it be that the hook is a bit too close to the head?

It's always reassuring when even the pro's have the ffs days too! Often wondered if you do. Got my FL jellyfish T this week, waiting (im)patiently to wear it for the first time on the maiden voyage of my first boat when she's finallllllly ready in a few weeks time. Hope it'll become a lucky mascot! --
