I can understand why people like using poppers, but as someone who regularly fishes large mouth bass on bait cast equipment, i can attest that top water is seldom the correct lure to reach for. The conditions have to be just right for top water.
I'm looking forward to putting together a bass fly setup, but I'm most definetly going to be using sub-surface flies for most of my fishing. I'll only reach for the popper or mouse imitation when the conditions are right for top water.
