Many thanks to you, Colin, and to John Gierach. On your mutual recommendation, I got myself a Christmas present of Thomas McGuane's book The Longest Silence. It was every bit as good as you said. Such elegant word choice. Such clever turn-of-phrase. What beautiful allusions to the past. Thank you for the nicest Christmas present I got this year. May I in turn recommend the books of W. D. Wetherell: Vermont River; Upland Stream; and One River More. In addition to these, his book of essays North Of Now is every bit as good, although not strictly about flyfishing. I've read all of these 3 times, and I find more to love each time. If you haven't read them, you will be glad you did. Tight lines!

Interesting interview at times.
But as a side note, many thinking people are trying to wake up the sleeping majority regarding what the hostile elite - including their brainwashing mouthpieces the mainstream media - are doing to strip us of our freedoms, even accept as normal, giving government the power to decide to give us permission to live as we wish, including travel to fishing destinations. I was surprised by your comments that positive news of a vaccination etc etc. You're an influential person and you just put people back to sleep saying everything will be good and positive. Our future is precarious because of the dangers the elite pose to us normal people not in their club.

I was out hiking in the hills here in Scotland the other day with my oldest friend. We were discussing books and writers. He is only a casual fly fisherman these days though we both started together when we were kids in the 1960s. I mentioned John Gierach and what to me makes his writing so good. I think it's because he writes about life around fly fishing. Fishing is the backdrop. Hell, he can even make an essay on camp coffee riveting. A great writer.

Colin. My brother introduced me to John's books in the 1980's. We have all of his books and re-read them as well as look forward to every new one. I have listened to a number of John's interviews and this most recent interview of yours is one of the best ever if not the best ever. Great job and I'll be following your work now. Thanks a great reprieve from our new pandemic world we all live in. But hey we all know you can socially distance fly fishing.

I use to go to the Denver Fly Fishing Show every year j( 70s through 80s) ust for the opportunity to meet up with John and have him autograph my collection, including the Fly Rod & Reel magazine that featured him on the front cover. My blogging friends use to accuse me of stalking John! I've still got them and all the photos of he and I. Thanks for everything John!

Didn't want the interview to end. A true American legend and much-appreciated down-under in NZ. I always offer flies I've tied to fishermen I meet on the river and it usually extends to interesting dialogue. It's what life is all about, sharing and friendship.

This was really great, thank you. I've read all of John's books and reread them pretty regularly, I really like to listen to him talk about books too. I also love The River Why that you mentioned, It's probably my favourite book of any genre-

That was fantastic! I live in the same area as John, as in just a few short miles, and I understand his love for brook trout and cane rods. This was excellent and I can't wait to watch the other interviews coming soon.

My only request for my 50th birthday was a copy of each of John's books. My wife did a fantastic job. I think she managed to track down 15 or 16. Thanks for this interview!

Loved the interview with John Gierach. Love his books/love your show. Our Thanksgiving was smaller in number, but still great in spirit. Best wishes for better days ahead!
