The world changes once you get into the Santa Cruz basin and ledges, temp breaks inside and outside of San Nic Island. We never took a giant sword there, but did take a 900 Mako in that vicinity. We did witness some very large swords, but never really got a shot on them.

What’s crazy is that I actually saw him. I just came back from Catalina today. I ended up seeing them on the back west side of the island. Super cool to see some fisherman who fish around the world at somewhere that I’ve been fishing my whole life.

Both shortfin and longfin makos are endangered, would not exactly call that abundant. While you can keep one that meet requirements, definitely a fishery that has been hurt over the years by commercial fishing,
