I'm searching for a 1000lb swordfish and its arch-nemesis, a 1, 000-pound mako shark. These sharks can weigh up to 1, 500 pounds and have a mouth designed to eat a swordfish. For the next seven days, I will be fishing off the coast of California for Bluefin Tuna, chumming for grander mako sharks, and searching for giant swordfish on the surface. Our adventure begins at Catalina Island on a 43 Freeman with Jay from Prehistoric Pets and Andy from Outcast Sportfishing. On our way offshore, we found a huge school of dolphins, with tuna jumping all around them. From Catalina Island, we travelled to Oxnard, where we connected with Zane and Blake from Hermann Fisheries. The Hermann's are a legendary fishing family and have been harpooning massive swordfish off the coast of California for three generations. The world changes once you get into the Santa Cruz basin and ledges, temp breaks inside and outside of San Nic Island. We never took a giant sword there, but did take a 900 Mako in that vicinity. We did witness some very large swords, but never really got a shot on them.

What’s crazy is that I actually saw him. I just came back from Catalina today. I ended up seeing them on the back west side of the island. Super cool to see some fisherman who fish around the world at somewhere that I’ve been fishing my whole life.

Both shortfin and longfin makos are endangered, would not exactly call that abundant. While you can keep one that meet requirements, definitely a fishery that has been hurt over the years by commercial fishing,

Honestly not a fan of harpooning. Seems like cheating especially with all the drones and technology lol. rest of thr vodep was great though loving the underwater footege

Help, me understand. how do sharks such as the blues and makos not sense the distressed sword floating around over the hour and not consume it

Mako’s are so delicious to eat and if they are abundant sounds like a plan to harvest a smaller one. And those Tuna, no way they were a 100lbs

In the first 5 seconds I call BS! The chances of catching a thousand pound marlin is literally less than winning the power ball lottery

Another great fishing video. The mako testing the motor to see if it can eat it is interesting. That top water bite was great to see. Cheers.

Fancy gloating about catching the fish that didnt have a chance with a drone and plane and boat. This isnt fishing. its greed.
