Bill Spicer is fishing on Lake of the Woods in NW Ontario and discusses retreive techniques and more for Musky on a fly! BeetleBuns: I saw one while trout fishing in Lackawanna State Park one time, it was sitting completely still almost right at my feet. I figured it was a carp or something since I didn't expect to see a musky in the little tailwater, tossed a black wooly bugger at it, and realized what it was as soon as the mouth opened wide and sucked my fly in. I went to yank the fly away, accidentally ended up setting the hook, and it darted fast as all hell upstream and snapped my 5x almost before it even went tight. I've been chasing musky ever since. with proper gear now.

Very nice rod work. Good job getting fish to reel. Only have rod tip and reel drag to wear a big fish out. I have been chasing those fish in Wisconsin and Minnesota since the early 1960's.
They are exciting. Try a large bass bug toward dusk by log structure and hold on. Tight lines Keep up great videos.

I-ve caught quite a few Musky on the fly in the Allegheny River drainage. Best technique I-ve found is a blistering fast retrieve and the size of fly doesn-t seem to matter (within reason. Nice job on that Gator Bill!

Do not put a musky on the reel. Never lift your rod above your waist. You also do NOT need drag on most fish. Pin them and wrestle them in. Nice solid fish.

At 4 mins: -snap! -. Bill you said that was when you knelt down and broke your rod. Tough luck, but that's fishing. Cheers
