In this video I show you guys how I like to Ice fish for Lake Trout using bait. Such an effective way to take advantage of your second line! No_NetMan: My first time ice fishing, I went for lake trout and I was doing everything wrong. I had a 24 ul rod, using 2lb mono and a 1/10 Oz Swedish pimple. I went to the middle of the lake and dropped to the bottom. Fished for about 4 hours with no bites, so I decided to move and absolutely burned my spoon in. About half way up the water column it got smashed by a very sizable laker for the lake I was fishing - about 15ish lbs. The fight was silly since I obviously couldn't crank the drag down. It did some crazy runs and I was shaking the entire time. After about 10-15 minutes, I got her up to the hole, but the ice was about 20 thick and I hesitated reaching in there. The bait popped out when its head was next to, but not in the hole, and I hesitated again before reaching all the way up to my shoulder to grab it. I touched it, but couldn't get a hold on it, and I watched my pb laker disappear through the ice. Huge bummer.

Hey Jay.
Another great video. Thanks.
Curious about a couple things maybe youd be willing to answer.
First - no weight to keep the bait down?
Next - here in Maine some of us use quick strikes for for Pike but rarely for lakers.
We tend to tie them a bit different.
We tie them so both hooks hang at the same length. Mostly because we often suspend the bait 6-12 off the bottom and having the hooks at the same depth allows the bait to hang parallel to the bottom. So im curious why you tie them one above the other? Is it because your bait is always on the bottom and therefore laying flat? Do you never fish them suspended? And if so, do you rig it the same way?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Jay, I regularly tie a Palomar knot. I left a 8 tagline when tying that knot so I could tie another treble onto it. If I were to use this to lay a 6 Cisco on the bottom, do you think this rig would hold up against a laker 25 and smaller? Huge fan of your content!

Hey Jay, I love how you included the how-to quick strike rig. Could you do that for your sliding quick strike rig for pike as well please? I'm going to Buffalo Bay to set out some tipups with my kids like you did last year in your video with Avery.

How to fish lake trout:
Step 1, fish one of the best lake trout lakes in the world - lake of the woods.
Step 2, drop almost anything down the hole with a hook.
Step 3, reel in fish.

I have a few questions id love your opinion on. When and on what set ups to use a barrel swivel on. Mostly crappie perch gills, with some walleye in the mix for me
