A very good tip. It also works well for spinning reels. At the end of the season, I remove old line, take the reel off the rod, clean an lube it. In the spring add some fresh line and it is ready to go. I have several baitcasters and spinning reels that are around 25 to 30 years old and still going strong.

i think it doesnt make that much of a difference. i have 4 abu garcia 6500 reels, and i never loosen the drag on them. my dad doesnt do it on his either, and hes had his since the 90s. still works just as well as new

My dad has told me about this for a while when it comes to spinning reels and I believe it helps tremendously. I never loosen the drag up on my Penn Spinfisher and the drag isn't nearly as good as it once was.
