Happy New Year to all my Landsharks out there! Sorry for the lack of uploads, but I'm back and ready to get these videos rolling! Starting off the year with an EPIC Barracuda catch and cook. This was honestly beyond delicious. Barracuda once properly cleaned makes great table fare. I got out of my comfort zone this dish and prepared a homemade curry, with my own Garam Masala blend!

Ciguatera is a real thing. It is a dinoflagellate that lives on dead/dying coral which then the coral eating reef fish ingest. It builds up in their flesh and then in turn bio-accumulates in the predators that consume them. We have been in many areas of world where more than a few people get very very sick every year. The key is understanding the reef eco-system where you fish. If the reef is basically decimated, and coral feeders are few, ciguatera is not as much as a risk. Example: southern Florida vs The Carribbean. But beware one area IS NOT representative of another. A mild case of the poising will make you itch from mild to major, if this occurs beware of the larger/older cuda/reef snapper. For instance there are some places in the south pacific which are undergoing major reef die-off which it is known some large reef snapper will kill you. Cuda are delicious no doubt, just realize reef predators are undergoing accumulation of the toxin associated with ciguatera as the worlds reefs undergo major die-offs.

I went deep sea fishing one time in Cayman Brac. We went for wahoo but caught several barracudas. The guide told me that maybe 1 in 10 cudas are poisonous. I asked him how he could tell. He told me that there are lots of feral cats near the docks and they throw a piece of the barracuda to the cat and if they do not roll over dead then they are good. I thought that was not very humane.

Love the vids and the family always coming together. However, I wouldn't risk eating that big of a cuda as many have already said about ciguatera. Not worth getting massively sick over. Born and raised Floridian. Just the risk you take if you really want to eat big predator fish. Surprised he didn't give at least a warning about it to people who aren't aware.

I hear all these bad things about the barracuda having Ciguatera poison in them but from the way it looks and how the Bahamians love it In starting to believe the risk is lower than people make it sound! Great video, made me really hungry

I think the issue with barracuda is not that it's trash or not good-tasting, but that it's a high risk for carrying ciguatera toxin. The risk is less with smaller fish. That's what I read from authoritative sources on the internet.

I cannot stand the smell of this creature, the little tics and fleas I see on them, and the thought of ciguatera poisoning. I just hold them up for a picture and let them go so victor can eat them. Bon appetit!

Ive heard for years that barracuda was a great tasting fish. Growing up in Hawaii, people always kept the barracuda they caught! Really enjoyed the content, and look forward to your next video!

You always fillet, try Barracuda as a steak, marinade in teriyaki, green, onion, with pepper, your a hell of a fisherman but you should try culinary arts to make it a fashion meal.

Are you at all concerned about cigutera poisoning in your large barracuda? I always heard you can eat the small ones but big barracuda were to be avoided.
