5 Things I Hate About Linux Gaming - Chris Titus Tech 5 Things I Hate About Linux Gaming We did Linux and now it is time to go over the things I hate about Gaming on Linux DeiwosN: I gotta take slight issue with your last point, because you were specifically talking about high end specs and talking about a game being 'almost unplayable' because it was around 100fps? :P But otherwise, with a kinda lower end system (video card especially) the problem is far worse. In Windows I can play all the games I want to with my relatively ancient video card, they aren't 4k60fps but they are solidly playable. This isn't the case in Linux, where I had a hell of a time even getting games to run at all because apparently my video card is slightly too old for native Vulkan support (it supports Vulkan but required some finagling to get it going) but when I do get into games they tend to be at most half the FPS I get in Windows. Monster Hunter World for example runs at about 10fps in Linux on lowest settings, but runs fine in Windows on max settings.

I have watched Linux improve for years now, As a gamer i still believe Linux requires a bit more technical knowledge to get games running that i do not have, Still i look forward to the day when i can finally kick windows to the curb where it belongs,
Not that i hate windows but as a gaming platform it goes to show how out of touch Microsoft is with gaming on PC and no matter how many versions of windows they put out it's always an inefficient cumbersome platform, it's like Microsoft refuse to learn from the mistakes of past windows versions.
Also i do not support Epic gaming and there exclusivity grabs or EA and their origin launcher they are a disgrace to the gaming community.

The main reason I havn't switched over is purely because of Easy Anti-cheat. My main game is Apex legends and I am just screwed on that. I was planning to switch to Zorin OS because it's super noob friendly, comes with nvidia driver support baked in just like pop OS and overall I just really like the way it looks and feels as someone who's never used linux before (I tried pop OS as well and am not as much of a fan). But yeah right now my two main games are Apex and Legends of Runeterra and neither work on linux :S

I'll tell you what really ticks me off about linux. LED's on arcade control panels. We have LEDblinky in windows. Linux has RGBCommander but it doesn't work with single LED's, only RGB. I also found a program called ledspicer but it doesn't even install, on most machines. Got it installed on the RPI but then crashed on loadeding.... It's inevetable Linux will match and surpass windows since DX13 will never come. Even M$ has given up at this point. They are just making on it while they still can.

As much as I want to drop Windows for good, it's going to be a hard slog for Linux to actually get market share. Game devs are going to focus their efforts on making games native to Windows for a long time to come I fear, simply because the biggest portion of the gamer market is using Windows. Personally I think the game devs is where it has to change. If they start developing games native to Linux, gamers will notice the difference in performance and switch.

There is maybe one more thing you forgot. It is mouse acceleration. A lot of people play without it and for those people, Linux will play just fine.
But for people like me, which are used to Pvohat's acceleration driver on Windows, having the exact same sensitivity and acceleration in all games, letting that go is more than hard.

As soon as linux does bridge the gap with gaming I would very likely jump ship just to not deal with all the random stuff that does pop up, like as said in the video windows defender or just windows taking up space on my drive (its not a whole lot but I know linux does take up less depending on who's you use)

To a greater extent than android, desktop linux is very fragmented. Meaning more work for developers to support many different kinds of systems where Windows is more uniform. Windows's -can't-find-the-.dll issues are usually solved quicker than figuring out why I can't install a missing dependency in linux.
