EDIT::I am using Linux as my daily driver::
Being newer to Linux, I have distro-hopped countless times. The amount of .iso's I have downloaded is mind blowing. When I find a certain distro I like or love (Manjaro or Fedora for example), I end up setting everything up to my liking and then find that a certain application I absolutely require is glitchy, or my GTX 970 doesn't boad well with this, or that, etc. I also consider myself extremely obsessive, seeking perfection which sometimes mentally defeats me as no operating system is perfect. I am very used to Windows, starting from XP (let's not talk about Vista), and it being pretty optimized. I really would love to get into Arch Linux, and virtually build my own OS to my liking, but my lack of knowledge puts that to a halt. Thus creating an impatient imbecile who goes with Ubuntu lol. Though in my opinion Ubuntu is quite optimized which in turn allows it to be pretty mainstream in the Linux universe. I really appreciate your videos Chris. Your intelect with linux spans far and any time I see one of your videos I know I'll certainly learn something.

Wait,wait, wait...hold up, so:
The DE is not the same as a window manager?
I have been using Linux for four months or so, I got into the Odin project and I have a 10 year old laptop...so I was told either in Odin or freecodecamp that I should use xubuntu and I did just that...but for a while I wasn't using the laptop any different than you would a windows or mac installed laptop.
A few days ago I decided that I'm going to go in the command line, bash script and vim as if my life depended on it (and pretty much, it does) and I installed i3. I switched to Lubuntu from Xubuntu and in the desktop computer I have Ubuntu Studio distro.
Last night I tried to compile git and failed miserably and just used the apt install in the lubuntu lap and got another source from git to just read it.
Anyway, I thought i3 was the desktop environment...

Your statement, you made about jumping from one distribution to another you say why! when you can make your current distro do what you need it to do. 1! I'm not a geek! 2! I couldn't give two shits about learning how to code. My reason of jumping out of Linux Mint 20.1 to MXLinux-19-- is this! Chrome remote desktop runs 100% on MXlinux and doesn't run on Cinnamon Mint 20.1 ... So that's my reason for jumping ship. I even tried endeavourOS via Vitrual Box. My personal thoughts on this was. That was 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Like I said! I'm not a Geek and I don't want to be either.

I am going to admit, I think I am pretty ignorant when it comes to technology. I am now on manjaro because windows 11 was the breaking point for me because of the unsupported hardware and amd performance hits etc. This was all really confusing at first, but the more I use linux, the more curious I get. I guess what I am getting at is that I am by no means -smart- or a -power user-, but I am interested in becoming one. Where do I start? Should I keep my main install something usable and stable for me right now like manjaro, or should I back everything up and try to learn arch?

Ok so i tried debian ; The small iso image cannot find my wifi card and cannot continue, so i download the live image ISO, which after a few cryptic messages dumps me to the CLI. I am really trying to like and use linux but it's just impossible. In this state who is going to use it ? It goes without saying that all my hardware works without any problems on windows 10 ( intel 10400, Nvidia 2060 super, 16gb, and a bunch of nvme/ssd drives).... Ps : i do like your videos well produced and informative, sadly linux for the desktop isnt.

The best distros for our moms is either Solus or ElementaryOS hands down.... they are pretty, easy to use and familiar (Solus looks and feels like Windows and Elementary looks and feels like Mac ...... if all you do there is browsing web, playing mahjong/solitaire, write a document or two once a year in Libre Office and maybe use VLC or Spotify)... these 2 distros are perfect

I'm on a 2012 macbook pro running Linux Mint Cinnamon. If I install Grub, I'm unable to boot into it. Basically getting a black screen that just stays on a black screen. So I'm guessing the GUI for the bootloader isn't launching? Anyone on here have any ideas for terminal commands for a possible force boot into gnome or any links to others with similar issues?

I now use Manjaro as a baseline simply because I like it, and Pamac is excellent for really changing the look and feel and getting an environment that flows and just works for my needs. The main reason for the initial choice of Manjaro after trying a few was the ease of setup with my GPU and Steam, it just worked after install with no need to mess with it.

im pretty new to this, but im having issues with debian. i chose kde plasma and gnome when installing. the display manager i chose was gdm3 in the install menu. On first boot it automatically chose gnome. Is there a way i can change to kde plasma? I know that at the login screen you could change the session, but on this one i cant choose .
