Oh hey, a fellow old mmo multiboxer! I multibox five instances of Final Fantasy XI, and I unfortunately don't see myself being able to move that over to Linux any time soon. Modern players of FFXI use a third party launcher called WIndower that hooks into the game instance, and getting that to run under WINE seems to be a complete nightmare. Whats more, even if you get it running a lot of the player-made add-ons (many of them a godsend for multiboxing) simply don't function. I'm considering doing a windows VM with PCIE-passthrough on my next PC build, since the motherboard I have right now doesn't support it. If all else fails I might just keep my current PC as a server and use it for remote play with Parsec or something similar as a fix.

If I buy a game or any software it is mine to do as I will, I never play or buy MMO nor do I buy subscriptions. If I buy it I own it, period. I am off 100% Windows now. It was not easy but I did it. I am over Windows and was over Apple 15 years ago. If new games do not run on Linux I do not play them. I do not have consoles but do hack old console mode emulators for out of use old school formats. I also have dedicated machines with MS DOS 6.22/6.22.2220, Win 3.11, Win 98 SE, and Win XP Pro SP2 for specific games and applications that are not Linux friendly. I feel if MS continues in its win 11 policy after win 10 is no longer supported, many more will switch to Linux.

After Microsoft marked my 3 year old CPU as not supported on Windows 11 I am moving to PopOS. I was surprised how good -Warframe- and -MTG Arena- run out of the box. Anyway I am leaving Windows 10 for dual boot since not every game will run smoothly like these two. Just to elaborate more... I bought ReCore on a Steam sale and the game just runs terrible on Linux with huge FPS drops. I installed it on Windows and honestly the game is just a bad port even on Windows I had some random fps drops. So I think we will need Windows not only for these games with anticheaps but for really bad game ports as well.

I dual booted Windows and Linux Mint back in 2011. Was not such a big deal back then as I played mostly console over pc games. But I have since become big into steam and have stopped dual booting (need the storage space). I really hope that someday in the near future Linux becomes as gamer friendly as windows. Seems like after a couple years, Windows becomes power hungry and clunky, it would be nice for games to be made to play on a more reliable and quality operating system. Doesn't make sense to push so much for all games and programs to be compatible with an unreliable platform

I am working on installing my Steam Library on Linux Mint Cinnamon Edge and playing nativity through Proton and through their pass through servers as a host server. It is very troublesome to reinstall 10-12GB of games a few times a year because Microsoft sent out a botched update and bricked the operating system. I would prefer having to only start over maybe once a year or as needed instead of regularly because Microsoft can-t properly maintain two operating systems now.

Hi Chris.. about gaming.. I have a very specific question about Linux: it's that weird OpenGL version problem you face with emulators like PCSX2.. Even if the display graphics card support some version of OpenGl, integrated or dedicated, you still have a problem since the emulators say it doesn't.. The best I could find on the web is something that has to with some environment variable..

Hei Chris, thank you for your content. I am rocking a Ryzen 5 2600X, 16GB 3200MHz RAM, RX590 on a Manjaro 21.1.6 and I am trying to squeeze some more performance for my games. So I have been playing around with a custom kernel (linux-tkg). Do you have some experience with custom kernels, especially focused on the CPU scheduler (bmq, pds, cacule)?

I-m a hardcore gamer I play and stream mostly any game that releases and I find enjoyable. I was looking into Linux because lately I-ve seen more and more videos on it. glad you added this right at the beginning so I won-t waist time! I stopped the video, dropped a comment and a like!
