You missed a fairly fundamental problem I think people encounter quite often which is that a long file path makes Word Docs unopenable. Check the total length of the doc title and file path (all the various folder and sub folder headings) is no more than 255 characters - if it is, shorten this and check if you can now open the document. Often times this is the reason I can't get into a work related microsoft document especially when it's shared on onedrive, Teams or dropbox.

Here one for you.
I have a word document saved on the desktop.
Double click on the document, Word opens but not the document.
Once Word is open I can open from the OPEN document feature

Someone emailed a word doc, I was able to open it in my Word 2010, but wouldn't let me save until I either did a -Save As- & enabled those Trusted options as seen at -0:55
