My Personal Website Will Now Be A Gemini Capsule DistroTube I no longer like the modern web (https). It's slow and bloated, run by big corporations and is now completely ad-driven. I miss the early days of the web when most websites were simple sites made by normal people like you and me. Thankfully, the Gemini protocol has me excited about the Internet again. - https://gemini.circumlunar.space/ - Gemini - https://github.com/shtanton/gmi2html - gmi2html

I Dont Find any reason to use gemini as a FullStack web and mobile developer , Web has been bloated but the internet speed has also move forward to be faster , and will get faster in the future with 5G technology. I guess DT is just so lazy to try other stack to build his own website , learn html , css and javascript. There are so many platforms you can deploy and manage your website. i.e. Hugo which is blazingly fast , easy to deploy and maitain, can be version control. But i guess that is not what you prefer because you cant code html , css and javascript.

You need to be a wizard these days to avoid all the bs content marketing low quality information only made to get your click and show ads. People specialize in SEO and keyword research and rank high on Google so that actual quality content from universities and so forth doesn't stand a chance. Googling things almost doesn't make sense unless you know beforehand which sites have good content and you limit your search to those.

6:29: -I know that not everybody knows about the Gemini protocol yet-. That's an understatement. Practically nobody knows about it.
11:54: -You can even version-control them on your GitHub or your GitLab-: that's what I do with my HTML pages, and I then use GitHub pages to publish them. I don't even need to buy a domain to publish my website. For the moment, I don't see the need to migrate to Gemini.

'the web is garbage and bloated let's make something else'
'wait nobody will use it this won't change the overal web'
'and? at least we're doing something and like the end product.'
Also: It respects screen reader and other adaptive technology.'
Granted I wish you could have inline links, and a few other nicities but I can understandw hy they didn't go for that.

I'm also tired of the web's bloat, but we're a 'visual' society, and the younger generation as well as any newcomers, are more likely to move past a plain text website. Especially when you consider how most Internet traffic is being conducted on cell phones. Does Gemini provide web scalability?

The Gemini Protocol, sounds like a cheesy 1970's cold war spy movie ;)
BTW. Ad's are perfectly possible in plain text:
Eat More Lard.
Lard is Life.
Limited Edition Lard.
Only 99 pence per pound. (while stocks last, T&C apply).
;)

Added a kristall gemini client. to my linux pc. Install went fine. Connection went fine. But the content on gemini looks to be a bunch of pseudo-starwars idiots that have no imagination and can't write. System looks fine but content is pathetic

I've been following the Gemini talk on Solderpunk's gopher phlog. For a while they were going to call it -Gopher 2.0- or -Gopher+- but there were enough people pushing back on adding anything to gopher, he branched it and called it Gemini.

I love those little lines at the end.
My question is: You need a Gemini server running, but which one?
Also I'm not currently hosting my website myself, so is there a way to have it served from within Apache or something like that?

reply

Oh man this sounds good, it just seems like without any major client support (like. Google Chrome, Firefox) this project seems dead on start. Like how am I supposed to get readers if they can't even read the damn blog.
