Just out of curiosity, but would it be possible for a fairly intermediate to professional developer like me to make a sort of stable income and living off free and open source software development?
I'm increasingly becoming skeptical of lots of companies developing proprietary software, but the problem is that you're kinda trapped if you're not also in the business kinda area of running things as a software developer to make choices for yourself.
I know the Linux foundation does have paid employees, but it's still a non-profit organization, so lots of code that is contributed back is from users of Linux that also don't get a profit off it.

Xorg may or may not have its -design flaws- but I see no compelling reason to switch display servers to something likely to be taken over by RedHat Inc. I specifically chose Artix Linux instead of Arch Linux because of systemd and RedHat's tentacles. I have been using GNU/Linux since September 1992 (SLS Linux and later Yggdrasil Linux and Debian GNU/Linux) and as my primary operating system since January 2000 (Debian GNU/Linux, Corel Linux, Ubuntu Linux, and most recently Artix Linux).

Xmonad is really great. I've used it in the past quite extensively before I switched from desktop PC to laptop. I would like to go back to it but there is this thing that bothers me. Does anyone know whether xmonad can extend displays? What I mean is to have one workspace be on two monitors but so they can show different windows. I can't figure out whether that's actually possible. I know that you can have separate set of workspaces for each monitor but this doesn't satisfy me.

I really hope we get a decent tiling manager for wayland. I am using sway at the moment, which is awesome, but the guys who develop the project can get a bit too political (regarding supporting nvidia and other platforms they don't approve). Happy to support and switch to Xmonad if it is going to be any different than how sway deals with its users and hardware support.

I've recently contributed to Linux Kernel. From latest release no one will encounter sound problems on laptop the same I use, because of my work.
That's amazing feeling, every user of Linux should try contributing. Even if you are not advanced user, bug reporting it's kind of contribution too!

Hey DT, big fan of your videos. You could always create a new branch in your repository dedicated to building out your new 0.17 config. That way, anyone referencing the master branch won't face any breaking changes, but at the same time, you can start testing out the new 0.17 features

Dude you need to make videos on obvious times average linux user should STOP when using command line. We don't want 100s of new -Linus-s doing -Yes, do as I say-. You also need to make a video on basic linux terminology that explains users where to stop saying -yes- etc.

I've been running Wayland on Sway for about 6 months and I'm all in! The fact that everything is included (mouse, keyboard, display, wallpaper config) within makes configuring so much easier. No more xinput scripts and feh messing up the alignment on my 1080p + 1440p monitors

$100 for a logo is dirt cheap. The logo that one could expect for that price is garbage unless you create a contest like they have. So that is smart , but for the artist its a major ripoff. Im totally against crowdsourcing artwork. It is insulting to artists
