Thank you. Here in China I've been using EXPRESSVPN for 6 years together with 3 others. One isn't enough. Currently it's the best with very good speeds but it does vary. Some months it can be very slow or non existent. My backup of choice is VPN. AC which is very reliable but not the fastest. Sometimes I use 12vpn which is incredibly fast but not a proper vpn as you know.
Lightway was incredibly fast when first introduced in beta in August but hasn't worked since.
VYPRVPN just doesn't work. WEVPN always connects but is so slow as to be useless.
A lot depends on your carrier and location; not just which city but which part of the city. I'm in Changsha with China Telecom.

I used ExpressVPN for some years and was really happy with it. Used Mullvad for some months after my Express subscription expired. Seems good, but had some issues with their Android app reconnecting, but that's still in beta. Right now I'm trying ProtonVPN, as they also advertised with supporting streaming services. Seems good as far, but I really don't like their apps. All in all, when it comes to usability, Express has been my best overall experience of those three. Having their own proprietary protocol seems weird. I'd rather see them contributing to develop Wireguard than doing their own thing.

pff all of their IPs have been banned on many many websites! Completely useless. Also split tunneling doesn't work more than 50% of time. Some apps are still recognizing the use of VPN. Surfshark has the exact same issue, it simply doesn't work.

In Linux, if you just install the browser extension you get the GUI you're looking for. I have it running on all my Linux machines, works a treat.
