CalyxOS Is Getting New Phones! - Surveillance Report 78 - Techlore CalyxOS for Fairphone and other new devices, the newest Nvidia hack, updates on Ukraine, and lots more privacy & security news Ingwie: holup. Sailfish OS is not an android ROM man: )
Porting it requires the same steps as when you port UBPorts or PostmarketOS.
Sailfish is based on the KDE frameworks with their own shims ontop and additions made and is thus a Qt-based shell on a regular GNU/Linux kernel and setup. o. o
Its actually really damn pretty and absurdly mature compared to many other -mobile linux distros-. but sadly, kinda under-featured, so to say. And, as it uses Qt, it inevitably has like ten million components xD. I mean you have standard Qt, then you add KDE frameworks then you ALSO add Jolla frameworks and probably add a few pieces of abstraction over KDE to make the API more -streamlined-. uh, yeah. its hyoge.

I mean, having Calyx add more devices and still not be open to the ordinary person who doesn't have money for flagships (because that seems to be the only god damn segment they care about) is pretty much useless news to most of us.
I cannot afford a OP8/8T, or any of the S-series Samsungs, I own a Poco F2 Pro which is a midrange with a SD865+ and I'm stuck with Lineage because none of these bastards in the so called -private- open source community care enough to develop builds for a phone that's $500 and just as capable as any S-series Samsung.
Same goes for Graphene btw. Privacy isn't meant only for you gringos.

As part of the Federal effort to -combat cyber attacks- New York state is rolling out centers in every city that will also involve telemetric data. They will 110% be furthering their overreach on New Yorkers, not just fighting foreign hackers. We are going to have a more digital Patriot Act.

Happy surveillance report is going somewhere else, but i'm also subscribing. Wait what -if it's bad in the wrong hands why is it ok in the right hands- that makes no sense the right hands are exactly were it should be the wrong hands are where it shouldn't be.

The Mozilla news made me laugh at people who hates Brave because of their ads. At least with Brave they ask you upfront if you want it and it's easy to disable, it's a known devil at this point. Mozilla is always sneaky in comparison (remember the Mr. Robot one.

33: 32 Unless PaleMoon didn't recently update their webpage, they're still forked from Firefox code. The only difference I can see is they use a different graphical rendering engine. Otherwise you're still stuck in the Firefox ecosystem.

Dictators and bad people--like the last 40 years of US presidents. How hard is it to look up the pronunciation of a word like -Jolla-? That leads me to wonder about how you would pronounce La Jolla, California or even San Jose.

I really want to see a phone like the 'Ulefone Armor 13' get calyx or Lineage.
It has a 5-7 day battery life, water proof, insane flashlight its just basically the perfect long-term phone.

I wanted this to happen for ages,
Wooooooohoooooo
Now if only Graphene OS was also available
BTW, how's the progress on that -Self-Hosting- series that you guys were planning to make?

reply

Well, the GrapheneOS Devs won't bring it to the Fairphone, because the Fairphone is -far from meeting even the most basic security requirements-. I asked them on Twitter last year.
