Is Online Shopping Safe for Privacy? - Rob Braxman Tech Now that shopping season is starting, this is a common question I've been asked. Is online shopping safe? Are there any privacy dangers? Are special steps needed to preserve our privacy when doing online shopping? We discuss what each e-Commerce site knows (particularly Amazon. com) and then we discuss ways to mitigate daily collection both from inside the e-commerce site or externally. If you're interested in setting up a NextCloud, Jitsi server, or some other cloud Linux server look into: Linode ($100 60 day credit offer)

Even if shop collects sensitive data for KYC then they wont use it for marketing purpose. As well if something is behind PSD2 then nothing from marketing has any connection to this data. Those are holy data. You have separate data bases where client agreed using his data for marketing (probably mostly anonimized data like cookies and fingerprints) and separate for money envolved purpose. They should be not mixed together. I think that in EU it would be hard to pass any audit without this kind of strong separation of data and data access policy.

I guess this builds a great argument for privacy crypto coins like Monero.
I believe some of these coins will sky rocket in demand and with smart contracts, I imagine people will figure out how to bundle more than just currency on these networks, like documents and sensitive information that needs to be transferred. Imagine if you could legally buy something like real estate and no one outside of those whom you specifically identify actually knows about the transaction!
Who knows!

In Europe we have Ideal. Credit card use on the internet is less common here. I mostly use Ideal and it seems safe but not really sure.
I actually stopped with PayPal because the wanted my telephone number. Since I don't own a credit card, I cannot buy from webshops that don't offer Ideal payments.
I find this all very complicated and would love to return to my life before the internet.

a while back there was a bug in woocomerce that I emailed to them years ago where if you had a users purchase ID you could return that persons name and shipping information
I discovered this when working on a clients website because the shipping confirmation url was being stored in google analytics and I could look at all the past customer information

Somewhat off-topic, but did you hear about Biden's emails being compromised by a repair shop? Was this a smart move by the Biden team? I still don't understand why all the emails were downloaded to the computer, were they using outlook express or a private email server? I thought private email servers were supposed to be good for privacy.

if you're a big amazon shopper you can buy gift cards for cash and add the credit to your account, it's a hassle but it depends how far you want to take it, get them to deliver to an amazon locker near you or P. O box if you really want to eliminate them getting your info.

Hey Rob, How do you feel about the 100, 000 new Electric Amazon Delivery Trucks complete with 360 Cameras. If ring is any indicator I'd guess that their creating a mobile surveillance state and planning on sharing all Delivery Truck 360 cams with law enforcement.

Some criminals seem to have decent privacy measures involving identity theft, complete with 'real' documents and the willingness to kill any witnesses that might compromise their 'privacy' from the long arm of the law lol!
