Hi Bob, I can tell you that WiFi mac addresses are used to triangulate people by most companies with public/guest areas. This can be enhanced by BLE modules present in modern access points. A classic example is a supermarket that does not even offer Wifi service but tacks clients that let their wifi/Bluetooth enable. This is then used to determinate the average pathing and thus the pricing and placement of items (usually the most expensive stuff is shown 1st. The precision is even better if the client associates on a public 'free' wifi since the device will communicate more frequently in fear of an idle time out. In addition, a captive portal will often associate that mac address with some kind of email or even real name. This last part is even required in some EU countries.

My car is being tracked. When the electricity went out and Wi-Fi was limited my car went dead. I used a charger and it wouldn't start. I own my car. I took out the bluetooth. And, I never carry my phone in my car. My radio will come on for no reason, gauges will come on for no reason and turn off. When the electricity came back on, I could jump start my car. I do pay for insurance and I do pay for a tag. SO they can not cut my car off GPS, since I own it. Paid for. If someone takes out my GPS, will it stop being tracked? My, battery and alternator are GOOD. This just started last week. I did notice a wire hanging down under my dash, which I've never seen before. Could I have a RFID on my car and someone locked it?

I do not use Alexa or any other voice activated software, I Unplug my videocam when not using, disabled all MS tracking apps in Windows 10, do not own a smart phone (in fact, I do not own a cellphone at all, rarely use community apps (like FaceBook) Also my internet is routed by my provider and does not report my location, but instead gives the provider address etc, no twitter, or other useless apps, No ring, internet is wired direct (no Wi-Fi, I use a Virtual Machine for Kali Linux/Ubuntu when I want to be invisible. I have anti-virus/Malware/Spyware software installed. I guess I am paranoid also? So I guess I am good for now? Right Rob?

For the Nokia 8110 4G phone (slider with mechanical keypad running KaiOS, there's a custom ROM called GerdaOS which includes the possibility of randomizing the IMEI of both SIM card slots, so it can be used as a reusable burner phone, just switch out the SIM card for another one and randomize the IMEI in between, and you'll be untraceable again (depending on how anonymously your SIM card has been bought.

The sad thing is that cons, stalkers, bullies and other abusers are already using this technology against their targets. This includes women beaters, druggies targetting our children, scammers, anyone tyrannical, fanatical, just plain old crazy that disagrees with your politics and that disagrees with your religion and sense of healthy shared information. I have noticed an odd pattern where at times my phone will eat through the battery in mere hours as if both wifi and bluetooth is turned on at once, while at other times the battery barely discharges at all unless I actively use it.
BTW, the first thing I do when I get a new phone is shut down every single google app, map functions, weather reports and then turn off the wifi connection.

Thank you for your input. It seems that solving privacy issues on the people's side is not feasible - too much work, education and cautiousness is required for anyone to keep themselves hidden from big tech.
I think the focus should move from individual privacy practices to collective destruction of big tech. Sometimes defense is not enough.
