Sure, Microsoft and the fragmented PC manufacturers have tried it (that coat hanger abortion of a Snapdragon tablet is a prime example) but nobody was surprised when Microsoft dropped the ball on development tools and subsequently, developer support for Win32 (Win64? Uh. Windows Forms apps ok? Lol) on ARM can be measured in parts per billion, basically. Just like USB-C and the bevy of other industry standards that the whole industry waits for Apple to take the plunge before embracing, ARM on non-mobile will have a -much- higher chance of success now that Apple is involved.

The arm architectur is faster it known since the 80's, because it execute it instructions directly one after an other while the x86 excute the as packs, for example if we want to load two values add them together and put them on another adresse on memory, the arm processor wil execute 3 to 4 instructions directly, the x86 will try to do it in one instructions but that take way more time to figure out what the most efficient way to do it than executing 4 arm instructions, without talking about the memory management and power consuming

Now it's 2020 and ARM is definitely in the big leagues. Snapdragons are, pardon the pun, snappy when running ARM-native code and the multithreaded performance is good. Apple's M1 chips are proving that custom ARM-compatible cores and an ultra-fast memory subsystem results in performance that is competitive or ahead of Intel and AMD.

ARM. Definitely ARM! You can overclock certain cores with different boosts. You can also assign cores to certain apps and assign GPU cores to other apps. SmartAssV2 is also really good. Yiu can set what min and max you want the CPU or GPU to be. then when apps needs better resources. itll assign resources.

Testing emulation, of course Intel will do better. Install the same Linux distro on both PC's but built for arm64/x86 and install native applications/benchmarks, and you will have a better experience. Sure you will probably have to build some things from source on arm, but it will be running natively.

I wonder when Apple will make the transition over to ARM based chips in their MacBook Pro rather than Intel. I-ve had issues with my old Mac getting pretty hot since it has a intel chip in it. I would love to see Apple make a tradition over to Arm based processors.

So the secret is out, Arm processors run much cooler and have longer battery life than Intel processors but who knew the performance would be great as well. . sheesh.

If apple puts this in a Mac, I'm sure they will optimize Safari browsing. And if Google puts this in a ChromeBook I'm sure they will also optimize Chrome.
