7800X3D vs 13700K: Which Is Better For Mixed Usage?

AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D is a champ when it comes to gaming, but how does it hold up under a mixed usage scenario? If you use your PC to game only 50% of the time and the other 50% of the time you are using it for work does it still make sense compared to Intel's Core i7-13700K? Find out in this head to head showdown! Classical: The Ryzen 9 7900 non-X would be an ideal CPU for mixed use. It can be paired with an entry-level B650 board, is fast enough for gaming, and consumes little power, so you can pair it with a simple air cooler, whereas a 13700K practically requires an AIO. Also, where I live (Netherlands) the 7900 non-X is 20% cheaper. Still, if you want to, you can raise the power limit and get it to perform exactly like the X variant because it's still a fully unlocked chip.

I think a lot of people are focusing on CPUs for gaming right now because CPUs are so affordable vs GPUs. Unfortunately, I don't think that this mind set is great, since the CPU contributes less, the weaker the GPU it is paired with is...
A reality check review might be interesting. I.E. Compare a 7800x3D with a 7600 system, but spend the money saved from getting a cheaper CPU on the GPU, and see which one performs better. So will an 200 better GPU give you better performance? Something like a 6800 vs a 4070.

Got a 7950x because I thought would be a could mixture but didnt really like the cpu very hot and used a lot of watt replaced it with a 7800x3d and wow that cpu is so cool and power efficient its crazy and not to forget very strong for gaming and the whole reason I bought a 7950x was for rpcs3 emulation but tbh 7800x3d isn't that far off almost the same from what I have tested a bit better with 7950x. Also cpu is cheaper

As an AMD fan and supporter, I have to say it doesn't make sense for me to upgrade, AMD's core count (vs core count Intel) and power consuming Intel (too high). It's waiting for the next generation. If you had to buy a complete computer of this generation, it would be Intel. I repeat again am AMD Fan.

This would be great to go look been at in 12-24 months once we can compare what CPUs could bet dropped into the same sockets in the future as a way to look at the complete value of the motherboard and CPU together; if all goes as stated we should see more CPUs into the AM5 vs Intel boards.

One of the use cases rarely considered in review benchmarks is just running a lot of different programs at once. Maybe you re playing a game and ruining a video, music, a browser, unzipping a file, etc. An 8-core won t handle that as smoothly as anything with more cores.

it isn't just the product, it's the company too. I'm not giving intel my money. the sheer amount of shady anti-competitive/anti-consumer shit they've done over the past 40 years is staggering. No one should give intel their money, period.

All of this test just shows, average corporate buyers look at the price first then efficiency and then other things. When the performance of this cpus are so close.

Amd and Intel are not your friends. One should go for the bang for buck CPU considering the task at hand. Thanks Gordan and Adam for another good review.

If you use GPU rendering in blender and only one CPU thread is active to control the GPU, what CPU ist the best for that task?
