In this episode the gang covers the newest Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti rumors, where angry gamers should direct their hatred, and of course we answer your questions live! Ginge: In my opinion, games are buggy because modern games are so complicated. Redfall, I played it, it ran fine. I heard most of the complaints about the non pc version not supporting 60fps. But Redfall was a terrible game because the story is just so bad. It seemed to be written by 12-year-old goth kids. But Atomic Heart IS an awesome game and mostly bug free (yeah, there s always going to be a few bugs). Interstellar gets the soundtrack award for me.

OK, we have heard it from Gordon himself! The BEST GPU from Nvidia adjusted for inflation should cost..._drum roll_ 870 USD. That's would be a 1080Ti size chip, the equivalent of 11GB GDDR5 14GBs in 2023 which would be Micron's GDDR6 21GBs ( 29.91 for 12x2GB). And instead of 870, we get... 1600. MLiD wasn't kidding when he said Nvidia would make money on the 4090 at 900 bucks I guess. Seems like he was pretty dead on actually. When you price everything out piece by piece it looks like they would make money at 700 USD, though it wouldn't be enough for retailers or wholesalers to get more than a 3% or so cut.
Bleh, we just need to keep doing what we are doing. Buy used. Don't buy things that are blatantly overpriced unless we actually need it (ei if you're going to make 50k extra/yr with an H100 then pon up the money and buy one. If you're going to make 10K more with a 4090 compared to a 3090Ti, then buy the 4090 over a used 3090Ti). Nvidia's shareholders will only allow for Jensen's excuses for so long. They fell for the _ Miners make up far less than 50% of our customers, and gamers have proven they are willing to pay whatever we are charging for GPUs as well... _ (very loose quote at the end there) and the _ We anticipate being the main supplier for the _ _eventual_ _ multi-trillion dollar AI market... _ (And Tesla then cuts it's order from 50K to 10K 100's while Microsoft picks AMD over Nvidia for their Chat-GPT4 based cloud AI service!) and their shares just go up, even though their year on year income is literally 10B+ down compared to the previous 12 months AND they have hundreds of BILLIONS in unsold inventory/chips in warehouses and sitting at TSMC bc Nvidia doesn't have the space to put them on cards and store them. That is nuts.
At AMD's most recent earnings/investor guidance call in which they exceeded expectations by 6%+ the investors finally told AMD _ Doubling your ASP is great, but let's make sure we understnd one another. You have made LESS money the last 3 quarters so you could sell things for more money? 1 quarter is acceptable, but losing money for 9 months to raise our ASP and continue to sell and make less money while inventory keeps building up is not a sound strategy. Sell your product. If more money means a lower price which brings us higher dividends then let's use some common sense and DO THAT. The next day the 6950XT dropped in price again.
If Nvidia did not have a stellar quarter I expect a very similar demand from their shareholders. It has been a year. We/They (shareholders) were lied to on numerous occasions, and yes, their ASP is all the way up to 903 I believe, with margins on GPUs over 63% (53% company wide) but they are making billions less than the last two years. Most of this is due to the lack of mining demand and pricing out the majority of their consumers. Add in pretty rough times economically and they are doing everything backwards. They are holding 98% of their company's market value in assets! They have historically been at 25%-35% MAX. 700 Billion evaluation and 98% of that is assets. Yes, a ton is intellectual property, real estate etc. But at minimum half of that is inventory. So in a best case scenario they are sitting on 325 Billion in unsold GPUs. To keep prices high. At this rate they will be releasing Hopper 6 months late and still have to compete with their unsold Ampere and Lovelace cards. 3 generations on shelves at the same time, with 2 years between generations? That is a horrible business strategy. They are going to HAVE to lower prices across the board.
See, people don't just want a 200- 400 card. They want a GOOD 250 card. A good 350 card. An above average 400 card, and at 700 they want a native 4K 60/High settings high RT 60FPS card. At 1000- 1200 they _want_ and expect a card that can play the latest AAA games maxed out at 60+ FPS native, and by maxed out I mean RT as well. At 1600+...well it is pretty much the same market as 1000+ really, with the exception being they may want more VRAM for work/hobby projects. They basically expect a professional level card that is also able to play modern AAA games on a 5K display at 120FPS without DLSS 3.0 nearly maxed with RT on. So, the 4090+20% give or take.
Nvidia is basically raising prices and lowering quality of product at the same time. Similar to _ shrinkflation _ at the grocery store. A company gives you less rice in a smaller package for more money. Except in Nvidia's case, they are driving the inflation. RAM prices are down. PCB prices are down. Shipping costs are way, way down when compared to the launch of Ampere do to the pandemic. Even silicon prices are down when compared to 6 months ago (though Nvidia probably paid for the silicon already so that is _most likely_ a moot point). Even if silicon is the same price, with such a low defect rate, they can't be paing more than 200 or so for a 4090 chip. These are 850mm 2'd reticle breakers.
I'm really happy with so many people standing firm and just saying _ F that, I am not paying that much money if this is what they are giving me. _ I am annoyed as heck that Nvidia is being so bloody stubborn and AMD was literally just letting them do so. With AMD not having a 4090 competitor, still being well behind in RT and not having a frame generation tech, they need to be competing by pricing ALL of their home consumer products aggressively. They do it with their CPUs, they need to drop margins on their GPUs by about 50% (so we'd be looking at a 31% margin on RX7K GPUs) About 5% of that 31% should be given back to retailers in the form of rebates to get rid of all of their old stock. The 6950XT is _almost_ gone i think. To the best of my knowledge they are down to roughly 5% of last year's 6900XT/6950XT. I believe I heard that from Red Gaming Tech, I didn't read it in a report or hear it directly from an AMD call so I'm not positive about the accuracy there, but hopefully it's on point.
If we (PC Gamers) want ports to keep coming to PC, even a little broken, we need to have the hardware to play them. If publishers don't see a large enough install base, the games simply will not come at all. We've had dry spots like that in the past, and going 2 or 3 years with very few AAA games besides CoD and FIFA SUCKS. Unfortunately, without that 1m+ minimum expected install base, there just isn't enough incentive for publishers to bring non-monetized single player experiences to the platform, so we HAVE to get these prices back in check. If Nvidia and AMD push this too long, there won't be a reason for most people to buy their products anymore.

Looks like PCworld is on COPIUM about VRAM as well like most of the Nvidia users out there
Also, how dumb are you man why are you straight going to 32 gigs from 8 gigs? People want 16gb on these 8gb cards not 32gb. No one said 32gb. Either you're dumb af or brainwashed af, rebels regardless, Nvidia is laughing all the way to the Bank anyways. As I always say, Nvidia's customers are the problem.
Edit: yes Gordon that's because people in NA are busy playing on consoles. Gaming on PC is nowhere near as popular as console in NA. While in Asia and Europe, Asia especially PC gaming was always way bigger than console as you can do other things on a PC, for example STUDYING so parents are way more okay with getting their kids a PC than a gaming console. Over here in India I got my first PC in 6th grade with a i3 3220, 8gb RAM and gtx 750ti. My dad had a much higher end AMD setup at that time as well.
Edit2: 30 series deals? Where tf have you been slumbering all this time? Virtually everyone buying new for like a year now has been buying RDNA2 because 30 series IS STILL over MSRP 2 years later when next gen is launching. That is absurd is disgusting. Only Nvidia simps and productivity people are paying those prices. Anyone with even a single braincell are buying RDNA2. 30 series deals he says
Edit3: definitely agree with Elena here, anyone buying between 200-300 is buying 6600/6650xt period. The reason 3050 outsells is because of prebuilts. And we know prebuilt buyers don't know anything, 50% of them don't even know what a GPU is and the other half just see Nvidia and they go for it they don't know anything about it's performance. People actually buying just cards off the shelves are buying 6600/6650xts.
Edit4: disagree with Elena. You had the concept down but you came to the wrong conclusion. The problem is the game with makes public companies beholding to the shareholders who don't know anything and demand more profits as fast as possible. Management makes those decisions because of that, not simply because they wanna screw over the developers/workers. The problem is the classic blame the game not the player. In this game management are the players while the broken public company model is the game.

What really annoys me is games seem to be the only industry where releasing a broken unfinished mess is considered the norm. If a car company were to release a car, say you buy a golf that was undriveable, and they were to tell you sorry will fix it in a few weeks you would be pretty annoyed. But if you were to buy your first car, a golf, and had that experience, and your next 6 cars were golfs and they all receive the same experience. How many more times does that have to happen before you say no more, I'm not buying Volkswagens and I'm not recommending them?
If you were to buy an Ikea desk and it snaps in half the minute you put a tissue box on it, how many more of those are you going to buy before you stop buying Ikea furniture or recommending Ikea furniture?
If you were to go to a restaurant and they bring you out a half-cooked pizza how many times do you go back to be served half cooked pizza before you say enough is enough and stop going back and stop recommending them?
Mistakes happen, but it is when there constantly happening is where it becomes a problem. As the saying goes, don't apologize just fix it and make sure it does not happen again. Fixing things means jack tripe if every single time you do something you stuff up and need to fix it. Maybe it's about time we held games up to the same standards we do everything else!

I firmly believe more blame should be placed on NVIDIA for this current glut of bad performance. Three main issues exist for their hardware- a lack of VRAM that is, quite frankly, inexcusable- secondly a really poor DX12 driver that is hampering performance- and thirdly, horrible pricing that is locking people out of performance tiers they were previously accustomed to. The VRAM situation was completely preventable, people have been talking about the coming increased requirements for years now. They could have and should have put more VRAM on the 4000 series, full stop end of story. Every single new release (even the non-AMD sponsored ones) has run better on AMD's recent hardware, and that's not some kind of accident. It's DX12 + VRAM. AMD released hardware that was actually prepared for this gen, NVIDIA didn't. AMD is still charging too much, but at least they haven't gone full psychotic like the competition.

Why in the world would you pay for an overpriced 4060ti which doesn't perform and it has 16gb for an even more overpriced tag.... sjeezz... what are they smoking there? Raytracing etc will still suck on a low end card like the 4060ti even with 400gb of RAM.. Cheap machine learning at home?? With current prices?? I would not call that cheap.. nVIDIA is just delirious.
And it will be a kiss of death anyways for an underperforming card.. With 8gb or 16gb.
Oh and the constant need for more VRAM is just lazy programming by game devs probably conspiring with nvidia to bump the need for those cards.
329,= bucks.... so yeah.. like 600 euros overhere in Europe... even though in euros it would be 280 then with currency exchange.. You never ever see anything close to or remotely close to MSRP here now.

The discussion starting around 1:30:30 reminds me of this quote from Paul Heyne: Contrary to widespread belief, corporate managers do not aim at high quarterly profits to keep shareholders satisifed, at the expense of long-run profitabiltiy. Management in this manner would depress current stock prices, which is not the way to please shareholders. Morever, it would invite and facilitate a hositile takeover, which would clearly not be in managemetn's own best interest.
Also, revenue is a less valuable indicator of a company's health than other more germane financial parameters: revenue is vanity, profit is sanity, cash flow is reality. Intel, in particular, is actually losing money most recently.

Well, i don't think anyone said it,, but consoles are designed and then it's one basic machine that everyone has to engineer the game for, there's really not much diversity in the hardware, updates will come directly from the console provider so game developers only have one party to interact with ,, , and finally besides the reasons it's EASIER to develop for consoles (within the limited environment),, the console builder doesn't even sell consoles by porting to pc , so they are not the ones doing the work to make the pc ports, whereas they DO put in work to make sure the games work on their consoles, meaning there are more total people working on the games for console.

Back in the day PC ports sure they were bad, but they also made PC games back in the day.. they don't make PC games, at least not really, and some of the last hold over genres are pretty much leaving that anyways.. for the most part, they don't make PC games anymore.. they make ports. And when you look at people that are like oh I'm switching to console gaming... that's not something that you could interchange if you're talking about PC gaming, maybe in an alternate timeline is peripherals had advanced in linear scale to hardware performance like they had been up until the 6th generation.. but we don't live in that timeline LOL we live in a Time loop.

A lot of these poor ports i assume have to be due to a PS5 first development where it has its own proprietary low level API that's very different to DX, making porting more difficult and compounding any issues with the baked in complexity of DX12. I think the reason this issue seems to have ramped back up is even EA's studios for example who release multiplat are probably taking that approach too, PS remains the larger market share for a lot of games especially in this current gen PS5 has run away from the Xbox console.

10-15 years ago amount of memory on GPU was less important because every new generation had some new DX lvl support or something that make old cards obsolete really fast. But now when you can expect from card to run games in 5 years with lover details level you really need that VRAM because you'll maybe not notice that you play on medium or low but you'll surely notice that textures are blurry. Or at least using HQ textures will make your experience on lower others quality settings more acceptable,

Just think about all the people who spent like 1500 for a 3080 10Gig at launch, Back when scalper's were getting PPL for 1800 for the 3090 and 1500 for the 3080 10GIG.. And their are people who spent that money back then.. AMD Cards too... They were very over priced.. All I know is in 4K these games like Hogwarts, they allocate close to 14Gigs if you have it.. I don't really know how much they use.. But I still say 8 GIGs is good for 1080P still..

My 12700k/3070 consistently pulls 18-22GB on a LG C1 (4K120hzHDR10) platform, 24GB really has to be the standard for 4K at this point. Everything maxed sans RT/motion blur: MS:FlightSim 35fps, FH5 85fps, CS:Source 600fps.. power is fine just need to improve latency and memory.
New formula: 90 series 24GB, 80->20GB, 70->16Gb, 60->12GB, 50->8GB. Tune your RAM timings = golden.

Stable diffusion is Vram hungry. I have a 3060 12gig and 1000x1500 is like the biggest image itll generate. There's latent upscaling but it helps a lot if your starting image comes out good. I got it a while back to replace an aging RX580 for 1440p gaming. It just happens to be pretty good for stable diffusion also. 12 gigs is definitely the bottom end now.

Team green did not hear us. About price and over priced crap up and down there stack so the 8 gig and the 16 gig is going to gather dust DUE to OVER Priced Love you boys and girls :D Game Devs are saying 8 gigs isnt cutting it . and in that aspect that just shows Just how out of touch Nvidia is not communicating to the developers of the industry
