It's a HARDWARE DESIGN FLAW and there's a solution to potentially avoid having your card die. First, the game obviously stresses a specific part of the card too much, but that doesn't make it the fault of the game itself. It simply exposes an issue which is probably insufficient power limiting. Possibly the power limiting design is too slow to respond in that area of the card so it blew a fuse or even a different component (either way the card is bricked. And it would certainly happen in a different game under similar circumstances.
-The BEST WAY to mitigate this issue is to set a global FPS cap. It sounds like creating thousands of low-data frames stresses a part of the card that, again, has a power-limiting design flaw. So avoid that with a GLOBAL FPS CAP (i. e. anything just above the maximum you'd ever want so 200FPS or whatever. And confirm it's working (FRAPS, steam indicator. That may also help avoid coil whine in those situations too.
That doesn't mean there also isn't another issue with the design since it actually sounds like the engineers didn't properly conform the the spec tables for these parts.

--don't want Windows 11. there's Linux (sigh. --
I use Linux as well, but I'm getting a little sick of this talking point without more context. Windows 10 is supported for at least another FOUR YEARS. And since the main reason for people NOT upgrading is because of the hardware requirements, that starts to become a non-issue as a lot of those people will be upgrading. Especially gamers.
And switching to Linux is not easy. It gets so much praise but if it was better, overall, for me then I'd switch. It's nowhere close to doing everything I need it to do. For other people it's better than Windows. And again I use both.
It seems like LINUX comes up almost every time a new version of Windows is released. Especially the bad ones (W11 is not -bad- though it's mainly the requirements which I mostly agree with.

So Microsoft decide to still give windows 10 a direct storage api instead windows 11 only? -
I hope Microsoft also reduce minimum requirement, so 1st gen ryzen Will still capable to run windows 11. If not, windows 11 install base wi be small and become flop like windows 8
I also believe arm cpu wont replace x86 soon or maybe not forever, intel maybe dead. But i believe amd Will keep alive. They just need bring something new for Zen 4. And keep or make the gap between x86 and arm even larger. Zen4 must have Twice single core performance compare to Apple silicon, if amd want x86 still alive. Keep the performance gap larger. -

EVGA has always been good on their warranty. I went through 3 122-CK-NF68-A1 motherboards for my QX6700 back in the day when I was going for massive overclock numbers.
The board I final approved is still kicking to this day with it's original processor and RAM. Still sitting there with a backup board that I RMA'd for a better Northbridge. They would get smoking hot and you needed the best you could get back then.

I really hope Nvidia would just do anything to knock Windows out. 10 is a glorified 8, 11 is a glorified 10, and all of them are no better than 8 had they improved it in the first place!
It's time for Linux to takeover with open source on phones, consoles, and the PC! If it really can run the best titles, Steam's OS on the Steam Deck should be released early for PC's and Windows will be shattered.

I just want a 3090 that works, doesn't break my pc and doesn't randomly break itself and isn't sold by a scalper. I feel like it won't be ready for another 2 years. Why release the card if nobody can buy it and it has these issues

So what's going on with Keith and PCWORLD?
Keith is always nice to see, though he will just have to get used to shilling Nvidia.

This series normally goes up on Saturdays, but I was on vacation this past week and it was a bit harder to get going again than expected.

It's nice to know that they have no problems shipping out plenty of warranty cards but ya still have to buy new ones from scalpers. -
