Brad, indeed, I love it that Valve uses Arch for this. It is the best choice for gaming on Linux. ;)
I have confidence that Valve solves EAC and Battleye before launch but then there are a few problems left:
1. EA, Ubisoft and Rockstar still use their own launchers. The games work but the launchers break the performance in many cases. How do we know that? Because the games work great when you crack them. Yes, people tried that out, just to figure out the problem.
2. Valve still kind of makes a mess of the setup. I have had multiple occasions on which I could not get a game to run easily becuase of mistakes of Valve. One example is that Valve did not make a required director on the C: drive (wine) for The Witcher 2 (it needs a folder under the My Documents folder. Another example is that more than one game would not install required libraries first. Here the annoying part: it did work on an earlier version of Proton but somehow Valve overlooked it.
3. Valve still uses the wrong Vulkan-driver by default. On Linux there are 3 Vulkan drivers: RADV (basically from the community with AMD's help, AMDVLK (from AMD itself) and the pro-version from AMD itself. Yes, that is a bit of a mess but here the crucial thing, Steam will always use the AMDVLK-drvier by default if available and that gives a noticeably worse performance than the RADV-driver. This wouldn't be as bad if you wouldn't be required to have the AMDVLK-driver for some games. You can easily make Steam and other software use the RADV-driver by setting an environment-variable which is set under /etc/environment
If you test this Steam Deck with Linux (which I hope you will do, obviously: p) then it know in The Full Nerd and I will drop by on Discord or send an e-mail and give the instruction on how to do that. It is very easy but if I would input that on YouTube then G might block my post.
Cheers.

Most people are excited about this
1- You have the emulation guys, this is powerful enough to easily run all the way up to PS3 and Xbox 360 comfortably in a small handheld. also can be used with a dock to turn a Monitor or TV with fightsticks into an arcade machine all while having access to your steam library.
2- Gamers that don't want to lug around a laptop but want something to game on
3- that very small Linux crowd that take it seriously as a desktop you know that special 4%
4- The people that realize Nintendo hates money because they won't make a more mature adult product.
5- Non PC gamers that see this as more a Console than a PC and because its cheaper they can actually afford it.
6- PC guys looking at this as more than a gaming device with Windows installed.
7- The Bethesda Fallout and Skyrim people that Mod the hell out of the game, at this point Skyrim runs on a toaster well and they still want to see if you can push it to the limits and launch Lydia off the throat of the world in all its glory.

Brad and Gordon, Epic might not support Linux but you can play those games. It just takes some tweaking but everyone can watch a Linux-video in which it is explained and copy what they do, right? ;) It doesn't require technical knowledge to just copy what somebody else does. In regard to emulation, that still is singlethreaded as far as I know so it is all about the clock-frequency and the architecture of the CPU. Allegedly the Switch has roughly the same hardware-performance as the WiiU. Yes, it will work if that CPU can boost that single core to the 3. 5 GHz which is advertised as the boost. I think that this will be a wonderful emulation-device and that alone should help the sales a lot. Brad, I am about as enthusiastic as you about this Steam Deck. It runs Arch out of the box and it is for gaming. Sign me up! :p

Regarding the story of the -Come and Take It- shirt and the cannon. You mentioned that you thought people were missing a key point that the cannon was the property of Mexico and it was the equivalent of loaning your neighbor your lawn mower and then your neighbor refusing to give it back. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I think you're also missing a key point. They went to war. So for the analogy to work, it would be like you loaned your lawn mower to your neighbor, then you went to war with your neighbor, and after you'd both killed several family members on both sides, only then does your neighbor say, -If you want your lawnmower so much, come and get it! - Not that it wasn't technically still their property, and I'm not Texan, but I think that's a more appropriate analogy.

Gordon arguing about Texas basically stealing a cannon from the Mexican government at the time is entertaining. But he doesn't factor in Mexico would have turned that cannon around the moment they got it and used it on Texans. So to use Gordon's stealing analogy, it would be the equivalent of lending your neighbor a shotgun to kill those pesky coyotes but then requests it back to shot them. To be honest, I like Gordon but his thinking process is a bit messed up.

I hate to burst your bubbles. VR is like a boat, it's fun to buy and use once or twice but then you sell it. Steam Deck, is over rated, nobody needs to lay in bed playing at lower quality. AUTO HDR, is a joke. It's the same garbage that IS already in windows 10. It's complete trash. And Gordon, you're the best! [ sometimes: ) ]

In regard to Texas and California having been Mexican, think about this. The technical powerhouses are in Texas and California, not in the original part of the United States of America. Coincidence? Gordon his talk about this reminds me of the movie Zorro. That was in the time that the Americans tried to conquer California.

Sorry Gordon. I am New York (but have ancestors from Louisiana that helped win the revolutionary war. That canon was munitions lost by Mexico, just like they lost Texas itself. If I were there I would be yelling -Come and Take It, if you have the nerve- (well, I was born in Brooklyn, so 'Try It')

Controller Support for Non Steam Games sucks big time though. Everything has to go through Steam Overlay. I tinkered a lot with Steam Remote Play. It's really annoying. You wont even get 60fps if not launching the games with Big Picture.
