Love the Getting it right in camera crowd!
I have worked with Photoshop every day since before it was called Photoshop, and had every version since. I had been retouching and manipulating other peoples photos for 15 years before I got into photography myself. Since I started in image manipulation BEFORE I became a photographer, I see things differently than many people who were photographers FIRST. When I am on a shoot, I am evaluating the scene in terms of What elements, exposure and focus do I need to capture on location that would be difficult to improve upon later in Photoshop, all the time noting what things I am going to do later, better and easier with Photoshop. I have never had a client in over 30 years that was willing to pay me an extra dollar for getting anything in camera in one shot, I have made a good living by altering shots after the fact!
I just watched a pricy product photography tutorial where the photographer spent roughly 30 minutes of my time and his trying to remove a glare on a glass bottle using double polarization - intent about getting it in-camera! He was able to get rid of about 90% of the glare at a cost of about $600 in high-end polarizers he was using and 30 minutes of time while I could remove 100% of that glare spot in one click in Photoshop! My only thought was Why are you wasting so much time, it is not 1950! Aren't polarizers and filters cheating? Aren't dodging and burning in the dark room in the film days of Ansel Adams cheating?
I agree, that probably photo journalism shots where something is altered that might taint the truth of the moment in history would be the only time cheating comes into play.

Is Photoshop cheating? No! I dont think it is but in my opinion pplo are inspired by what they see. For example an amateur photographer like myself will look at a photo, lets say a landscape scenery. love it then get as much details as to time of day when it was shot. go to that place multiple time and can never replicate the one i saw. one of the many reasons and most importantly it's because it was edited by software. So because we don't normally get to see the before edit, we may become frustrated and think we may never get better. Another example. wedding photography. couples only see the end product and assume the photographer was awesome, they don't know to what extent the picture was taken that way SOOC, same for us who are trying to get into that part of photography. In summary, Photoshop is a creative and manipulating software and is only considered cheating if someone try to convince you otherwise that a photo which they know fully well it has been edited is SOOC.

Affinity Photo is $49. 99 NO subscription. It's comparable to PS but not as rich in features and not heavy multi-media/graphic workflow friendly. You can handle 99% of image manipulation/editing/processing for any projects but at the expense of learning and doing more technical work in lieu of user-friendly rich feature of PS. Great for Indie user and easy transition from PS. If you're working with others on a project in a PS workflow environment on a tight deadline then stick to PS. But, Yes, you can use Affinity Photo in a PS workflow but be prepared for minor conversion mismatch. It's goes to any and all conversion of any software-to-software. It worth more than $49. 99 and I would definitely recommend it! If you're work process and the revenue from it, at minimum, justify for Adobe sub then stick with Adobe CC. Will save you a lot of time and headaches.

Making a logo. Made me think of Signature copyright creation. I do understand how to copy my signature as a transparent file and get it on a picture. But my handwriting is shaky and my signature is not smooth. Is there a way in PS CC to smooth out my real signature so it doesn't look shaky? Else, I guess I can fool with my textual name in PS CC, maybe with Transform.

Is Photoshop Cheating?
My personal opinion on it- It's not because in Photoshop we can do everything we want to do with photos that we don't able to do it in real life (cause of many reasons. Photoshop isn't about faking anything and fool people but it is all about to show your creativity level and give different dimensions to the photos.

Matt, why would the phone and dslr quality be about the same? I understand that they may have good mpxls but the phone sensor is about 1/2. 3rd OF an inch.

SO glad Adobe follows you, Unmesh. Really people. taking PS by crack or torrent is theft. It's like someone stealing one of your images. It Is Illegal!

Photoshop isn't cheating, it's just not photography once you get to a certain point, it becomes a digital illustration.
