That is not the way to solve it. The reason why it's doing it comes from how specific is Photoshop with the files. If sais JPG, opens it with the JPG logic of decoding that image. Other softwares that are viewers, like Xnview, just displays that ever they can, so, if Extension and the real File coding do not match, they open it any way. For same reason, a download software misunderstood the file and assign it a different extension. SO. rename one file, example to PNG and try to open it. If it works, you know that the files are PNGs. So, use a Renamer tool to rename automatically all of the to that extension, and problem solved. Abrazos.

Had this three times this week working on a brochure for a client. He saved files in PNG format but renamed them to JPG because I told him I wanted JPG format. So the first thing I usually try is renaming the file to PNG. Can't count the times this has happened.

Thank you so much for this tutorial: )
I'm using Mac. Export > jpeg didn't work for me.
I tried Export > pdf instead! now it's working. (still good resolution)
But imagine exporting 100 to pdf images before editing! SO SAD! :(

paint cannot read this file
This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported
Anybody please help me

You can also just copy the photo and create a new canvas with the clipboard dimensions then paste the image in. It's a bit quicker then creating a new file.

Sometimes this problem can be fixed by renaming the image
or by erasing the dashes '-' that appear in the name of the image

I restored a deleted folder, 39GB. All images say the same. Is there a way to do this easier for a couple thousand pics?
reply

this works but you cant maintain your transparent background from your original image because paint is absolute shit

Also try closing adobe photoshop and re-opening, especially with Catelina seems like a lot of glitches. Worked for me.
reply

you can also rotate the jpeg image by right-clicking on the JPEG file and drop it in the Photoshop. Problem solved
