So the problem I usually have with your videos is your base of assumption that your audience is at an intermediate skill level, such as at 2: 04-2: 10. Lots of mouse movements and clicking to get a brush size, but no explanation of HOW you do this. Many more examples here, but you get the idea.

Thanks, but I don't understand how suddenly it was a layer mask - The Gradient Layer cannot be a layer mask in my version of Photoshop CS6 it seems.
I just merged the layers and will sue the rubber tool. The Soft Sound Brush stuff at 6: 44 didn't work. I just had to merge the layers.

An additional tip: since different colors in real life are affected by ambient lighting, you can bring them all together with a final Photo Filter adjustment layer at the top using either a warm or cool filter to simulate the scene's original color temperature.

Excellent tutorial! I don't hand out that kind of praise very often because many tutorials whiz through the processes and skip mentioning key steps that are integral to being able to execute the lesson so THANK YOU!

Once I make the blending change to 'color' it no longer lets me adjust the gradient map. I double click and go back into the gradient map and move the sliders but it makes no change to the color. Any ideas?

I prefer this method a lot more than the creating multiple layers for paint and grouping them in a folder. I never use gradients but they are suprisingly powerful to know.

This is great! As a portrait artist I knew very well what needs to be done to make it look realistic, just not how to implement it in Photoshop: )
