10 Quick Ways to Reduce Photoshop File Size!

Learn 10 practical ways to reduce the size of your PSD file or Photoshop document! Apu: I work with uncompressed. tifs as my computer is old and they take exactly half the time for any edit, though they're exactly double the file size! So, IF you do the same, it's simple. When you're done, just 'Save as' psd and delete the tiff. (Before you backup of course) OR, you could just 'Save as' itself, choose compression 'zip' (not LZW) and replace it. Bam, half the size again. Another reason I prefer tiff is you get a thumbnail, so it's much easier to indentify the file / photo. Either way, it's lossless. Half the disc space. If that's STILL not small enough for you, then use the techniques in this veedio if you don't care to re-visit it especially! Else, some of these techniques are, in a way, 'destructive'.

Those are simple and easy fixes with compromises. What if a simple small canvas size file with one single layer (Rasterized and cropped) takes like 250MB? We had some talks with Adobe guys (they connect to your computer actually) and they are looking for even simpler things, can't find nothing and they just escape by closing the session. There are topics online about this issue, but it looks like no one can solve this problem.

If you use lots of smart objects in your document, it's also worth checking on their sizes respectively. Say you have created a composite with lots of high resolution stock images brought in as smart objects. It's worth checking out whether you need e. g. a 6000x6000px original image of an apple in your lush fruit basket when you know it will never appear larger as 500x500px in your final document.

Hello! i am working on T-shirt designs. T-shirt image size is about 6k x 6k. I need to save the file in 1k resolution so that I can use it on the website. But every time, when I try to save its quality gets bad. I tried a lot of followed man tutorials even tried online tools, but all in vain. Also reduced size with high PPI. Any specialized way to reduce size without losing the quality.

Great video! I would also like to recommend saving images as TIFF, not PSD. TIFF is able to store all of the Photoshop data such as layers, smart objects, etc. while also providing additional compression methods. With compression enabled, I typically find that TIFF files are sound half the size of PSD. Give it a try!

What really decrease file size in fast way is create document 8 bit. And when salve as. uncheck Maximum Compatibility. Also, reducing 300ppi to 150ppi or even 92ppi if your work will be only digital. These three applied can reduce the file massively, like 600mb to 30mb.

Zip your file with 7-zip as archive in. 7z format, saves a ton of space without any compromise
Bonus tip: you can save a low resolution jpg as a preview with the same name before zipping

pro hack: if you want to squeeze out a few extra mbs, just blend out all layers by clicking the eye symbol and safe as a blank psd file, -)

Thank me later,
If you don't use PSD like once in a year you zip it with 7zip ultra LZMA2 which is highly effective to save space.
