Workout to Build Muscle Mass (2, 958 HOURS LONG)

s the accumulation of the lighter sub maximal loads that helps them to put on much more size than the regular guy based solely on the huge number of hours they spend plying their trade. I show you the 2, 958 hour equation. We get to this number by considering that each of these people covered in this video works roughly a 6 day work week with 8 hour days. If you consider 51 working weeks in the year you realize that each of them are lifting variations of lighter weights (some very very light) and still building lots of muscle because of the accumulated tension. Almost every waking hour of their day is spent lifting weight or applying tension to specific muscles. Cyclists get huge quads, calves and hamstrings from the sheer volume of riding that they undergo, sometimes even at the expense of their upper body development. Pitchers develop much larger shoulders on their pitching arm compared to their non throwing arm. Barbers, yes even barbers, can get crazy good development in their traps because of the constant elevation of their arms required to cut hair. Does this mean that you should run out and start spending 48 hours a week working out to build muscle? Not at all. It just illustrates two points. The first is, you can definitely build muscle with light weights IF the volume is high enough to help you do so. There is no absolute that says you have to lift heavy weights to gain muscle size. The second is, that said there is a better way. If you want to build muscle much faster, you can start training like an athlete and trade in workout length for intensity. With the ATHLEAN-X Training system available at you can build muscle and burn fat at the same time. All of the workouts in the program are 40 minutes or less. You can either work out long or you can work out long, but you can-t do both

I'm sorry but what you have said is just wrong! So our body can adapt to very high volumes of stress because muscle being the most flexible tissue in the body will adapt to almost anything! (depending on a persons dna) So I can see your point from that view! How you have come to this reason is through misconception and very little science! If this video proves anything it shows that our brains are built for survival and not for truth! Just because some people find results from high volume workouts doesn't mean all Of us will! Our ability to react to high volumes of stress will differ from person to person! Looking at how we have evolved our bodies would only build muscle to life or death situations (high intensity) where we were thing to kill something or something was trying to kill us! So training low intensity and high volume will not promote optimal results!
In building muscle the most beneficial results you can get is long periods of rest between work outs, paleo diet and high intensity training (with heavy weights) training shouldn't last more than 20 mins! With super slow movements (concentrating on negative, positive and static contraction to reach muscle failure. A book called body by science explain what I'm saying way better and prove it to! Save your self's time like I did! Don't lissen to this!

Washboard Wednesday question:
When performing the hanging ab exercises in 6 pack promise, your arms are pretty much extended straight up, holding onto the bar. This position is uncomfortable for me. I always end up pulling myself up until my arms are in a 90 degree position, simialr to the isometric bicep hold that you showed in another video. Is there some weakness that my body is exposing by my inability/discomfort when attempting to hang with my arms straight, as opposed to bent? I can keep my arms straightened when performing pull-ups, it's just when hanging and attempting to raise my legs that it becomes a problem.

At the end of the video when Jeff is asking for comments or requests, I'd like to place a request. I'm working on improving 2 exercises for me. We all know that a good, we'll executed in proper form pull up can be hard, I'd like to see a new video aimed at strengthening the back. It's been a while since I've seen a new one. And secondly, plyo push ups. Not just those but they're a great example of explosive work. I'd love to see a video with several explosive type exercises worked into it.
That's guys at athlean-x for all of you hard work by the way, from Jeff all the way to the support staff, you all do a great job!

It's a great way to build bcuz i do the same, i go about 15 reps rest like 30 secs and continue my training, but i also do 3 to 4 sets depending the part i'm training. So i have a question for Mr. X?
What should be my range of motion, should i go partial reps or should i go full range reps, you should do a video on FULL RANGE OF MOTION compared to PARTIAL RANGE, and the benefits of how this works in on your training hope to hear your thoughts about these have a good day Mr. X

The one sport that I continued playing for decades was tennis. My right side is so much more developed than the left, and it's led to problems. I tried sprinting, but because of the strength imbalance, I'm constantly pulling my right hamstring. I do pullups, and I'm constantly battling the pull from my stronger side. A tennis racket weighs maybe five pounds, if that, but since I've been playing from the time I was ten, and only stopped in my 40's, the my body has no symmetry.

I get you're just using it as an example, but I wouldn't say construction workers only do sub-max loads. While somewhat true (swinging a hammer a couple 1000 times a day for example, they also do a ton of heavy heavy lifting. And it's all real strength; lifting stuff thats unevenly weighted at awkward angles while balancing so not to fall. Seen alot of muscle heads who couldn't keep up with the little guys at all. Good vid tho

Hi Jeff, what is your opinion about training hard for a long period of time? I know youre always saying you can either work hard or long but not both BUT Arnold Schwarzenegger for example said, that his workout was often 5 hours long, and I have a trainer who says the same. I surely agree with you, because I cant workout hard for longer than 40 minutes. So how would you explain this? Thank you for your great videos and information!

Your a great role model for the young men out there looking to learn how to workout unlike most of the dumbell steroid ridden fools who are fooling the youth into thinking that to build muscle you have to gorge yourself with food when in reality they're shooting needles in their asses. Bravo thank you. I pass all of the others to educate myself with your videos thank you.
