I am literally hours post op hernia surgery. Waited for 3 years & finally got it fixed. I had a -golf ball- on the right that I would push back in. I also had two smaller tears (pronounced -tares- not like the salty discharge you get when sad) on the left. I got the 2 for 1 special. So I went in this morning at 7am. Robotic (Davinci) repair for both at 8: 30am. It took almost 2 hours. I awoke groggy at 1pm. 3 small incisions left, right & middle about inch and a half or less. The incisions are in a line about 2 to 3 inches above the belly button.
Right now things are pretty tender but I can get up and pee. Drinking lots of water ( good to get that flowing. Eating foods with fiber as important not to get constipated-the oxy will do that I-m told. I-m not taking it (or will avoid as much as possible after tomorrow morning. I don-t have any outer stitches as they put this glue type stuff so I can shower. Just don-t rub the area.
They also manscaped me and told me not to do it myself prior. I was unconscious when they did it but I-m sure it was done by a beautiful girl who secretly kept my number and will call me sometime (although the wife says not a chance.
Giving you these details cause it-s info you might not think about asking. Also going to utilize this to my advantage and sit on my ass & watch football all weekend. (Go Ducks)
Found this video because I wanted to know how soon and how to lift with a hernia & recalled Jeff mentioning he had a hernia in some older video and bingo found this!

My name is Pete. I'm 53 and been following Jeff's many great videos for about a year now. The information he shares is spot on for men of my age that want to gain some muscle and improve quality of life with a no nonsense approach. Bringing what I learn here to the gym everyday has changed my life for the better in many ways. Cant put a number on how many guys at the gym I've shared these videos with.
I recently found out that I've developed diastasis recti. The first time I got a good look at what was going on, I was really shocked. Luckily my wife and oldest daughter are nurses, and they were able to talk me down from losing it over the bulge above my belly button. lol
Jeff, can this be corrected with the proper exercises and avoidance of others? If so, what are they specifically? I'll do whatever it takes to correct it this way and avoid surgery if it's possible.

For a while I was certain I had diverticulitis, because I'd have this discomfort in my lower left abdomen. Saw a gastro doc, had an ultrasound and he said it's likely an inguinal hernia. He said I actually had them on both sides, but I guess the left one is bigger. I've never really lifted 'heavy', and I don't feel pain when working out. I'd say it may flare up once a month for a few days, and then I'm good after 2-3 days of eating very light and lots of liquids. I also can't see any lump, but that's cause thanks to this pandemic, I gained a bit of weight and have a decent belly. Lesson learned. I hope/think in my case, weight loss will alleviate the issue. But if not, I guess the mesh repair is the way to go. Great video.

Jeff, I watch your videos all the time Hi Jesse. I have a right side hernia which I don't plan on fixing I'm 63. I got in the yard weeding while weighing my highest in my life 162lbs. I'm in the middle of losing that last touch of belly fat which I curse at every day. I just finishes my 12 weeks of weight lifting and serious calorie reduction, my muscles look great. I was doing different ab stuff and wasn't feeling any pain and the bulge didn't bother too much. Now after watching hernia stuff I'm petrified to even do anymore ab strengthening can you make a video on what is safe PLEASE and include Jesse in there! NOBODY HAS ANY VIDEOS I'VE SEEN ABOUT SAFE AB WORK WITH AN INGUINAL?

Well, you probably hit my problem right on the bullseye. I have put on knee up braced while reaching across something hundreds, if not thousands, of times. Now, I am 68 and popped a hernia a few weeks ago. 1. Is an elastic hernia belt enough to really help prevent it from getting worse or do I need a heavy leather belt as you showed in the video? I have lost 60 plus pounds down to 186 on my 6'1- frame and realize I don't have any glutes, just wrinkles, so, and going to start shallow, no load squats and slowly work up to deep squats with weight. 2. Does the lapriscopic surgery put you back as good as new (young) except for conditioning?

Hey Jeff, My story is a lot like yours other than the fact that I'm older. I'm 56 and in 2012 I had an Inguinal Hernia. I had it repaired with a mesh, but it wasn't laparoscopic. In the last year I've drastically increased my workout intensity to try and get into the best shape of my life. Well I think I over did it and developed another hernia on the same side. Right now I have an appointment with my doctor, but in the meantime I'm trying to workout through it. No real pain, just a bump and I can feel it after an intense workout. Do you think some kind of hernia belt would work? I'd love to hear what you think. Thanks, Matt

I would like to add that your repair and recovery from hernia surgery is going to be better: 1. While you are younger. 2. While it isn't bigger with more damage. Improve your outcome and get it done sooner rather than later if you have any doubt about watchful waiting. Within 30 days you will be back to pretty much normal without the injury. Rather than years of being careful and then it getting bigger/worse like mine did and THEN getting it done. I also went with a specialist: Todd S. Harris, MD, FACS

had inguinal hernia surgery in August this year. I just noticed that it's back again and my doctor has referred me to the surgeon again. and I was also diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis earlier this year. My local gym also closed down. This year's been full of injuries, doctor/hospital appointments and trying to find new ways of training. It's been hell and I just want to be fit and healthy without hurting myself. :(

I hope you'll share you thinking as to why you didn't get the second one repaired. I have one and when I talk to the surgeon he literally said -honestly, if I was you I don't know if I'd get the surgery or not-, and this is someone who does these exact surgeries for a living. There's a risk to not getting them but there's also a risk if you get the surgery - if it goes wrong you could be left with lifelong pain.

I had one near my belly button and it was the weirdest feeling pushing it back in. Unlike most stubborn guys lol I immediately got it fixed. Never had a problem since. I-ve had friends who almost died and one friend waited until i got mine and now he had a scar going across his entire stomach. Mine is a half moon scar barely noticeable now. Get the surgery! It-s so easy and recovery is super wuicj
