If you want to know how to run faster, jump higher or punch harder then you better stop focusing solely on your strength and start learning how to get more powerful. Many people get confused thinking that power and strength are one in the same. It-s not the case. If you want to develop more power then you better start learning how to exert your strength much more quickly. In this video, I show you how to train for power to build explosively powerful muscle and to become much more athletic in the process. The activities of running, jumping and punching are athletic moves that demand power in order to execute them most effectively. Without purposely training to become more powerfully explosive in these three activities, it is almost impossible to improve them. To start, we can discuss the act of running fast. You can increase your running speed by becoming strong (stronger legs will help you push harder into the ground to propel your body in space. That said, strength alone won-t get you to run fast. You have to learn how to increase your first step acceleration and speed of movement. The faster you can exert your strength into the ground, the more explosive that first step will be. You can do this with the sprinter hang clean shown here. This dumbbell exercise should be done with lighter dumbbells than you would normally use for cleans. The goal here is not to train to failure but to aim to lift challenging weights that you can still control. Go for quality reps and not with the intent of training until form breaks down as fatigue sets in. Next, you can improve your ability to jump higher by focusing again on the speed at which you exert your leg strength into the ground. A perfect exercise to jump higher is the broad jump clean demonstrated. Attempt to time your broad jump foot contact on the ground with the dumbbells reaching the rack position on your shoulders. The better you get at this the faster you will see an increase in your vertical jump. Finally, you can learn to punch harder by using the same principles as above. A punch is an explosive exercise that needs to be powerful and fast in order to do maximum damage. If you know how to generate power in your core you will be able to increase the force with with your punch makes contact. Drop a dumbbell when doing bench press and you will see just how much more quickly you can increase the effectiveness of your punching power. To improve all aspects of athleticism while building ripped, lean muscle be sure to head to and

jeff, first I want to thank you for all those videos. Good job! You give a lot of essential training tricks. Well done mate! As for punching, I would like to add a few elements: first step to a powerful punch is relaxing your muscles. Second step is turn your hips, the wave movement is the core of a powerful punch. Third, on the impact, hit like if you were hammering. But, first an foremost, relax! let go! Muscle strengh, muscle weight in your arms, explosivity, are only small components. First is muscle relaxation, and the wave movement. Watch Yoseikan-Budo, watch Systema, watch Jeet Kune Do, they all use the wave movement. Wave is the very basis of a powerful punch

Jeff, what do you think of shadowboxing with weights? Will it screw up a person's shoulders or elbows over time? I've also heard people say you shouldn't go higher than 3 or 4 pounds - is that true? Does it make any difference if a person uses wrist weights, weighted gloves, or a resistance band, rather than dumbbells? Is there even a benefit to using weights - does it improve explosiveness like people say it does?

I'm amazed every time I watch another of your videos that you can make money. The amount of free content you put out, the ability to change training and life for the better on that content alone is more than most of us need to reach our modest goals. I wish more of society was on the Jeff Cavalier model, sharing information and making money off of trust rather than insecurity.

Most of the people or utubers think and act in such a way that fitness only mean bodybuilding, gaining muscles, looking shredded, flexing muscles and buying whey protein but fitness is a lot more from running to gymnastics, from jumping to sports and from boxing to living an active life everything is fitness. Happy to see u breaking that fitness= big muscles mindset.

Any fighter will agree, your born with KO power, yes, you can develop strength and explosiveness but you can-t turn someone who isn-t a born puncher into a puncher. It-s a genetic thing. Mike Tyson had it, Roy Jones jr had it, Conor mcgregor has it. KO power comes from your genetic make up and bones. Useful video tho.

Pretty good tips but true punching power comes from technique. All the way from the ground, up the legs, through the hips, and out the arms. It should always be a snap and never a push, always from a resting position to avoid telegraphing, and only exertion during the moment of impact to keep the motion loose.

Great video but when I was boxing I was actually tell you the best way that got me punching harder and it's doing pull-ups with tennis balls then bring it to eggs when you get better, but I try not to break the eggs as you go up, also hitting a big tire with a sledgehammer

I-m interested in buying an Athleanx program for my son. He-s 13, 6-2- and 220 pounds. He plays defensive end. id estimate about 20 pounds are bad weight. Would like to help him improve his power, speed in all planes, and explosiveness. Thank you!
