a flat butt means a lack of muscular development. Another test for our glute strength is to perform a hyper-hold for at least 2 minutes. If you fail to hold that position for 2 minutes, you're likely suffering from a glute weakness. This means you need to start adding glute strengthening movements into your training utilizing exercises such as barbell hip thrusts, rdl's, and sprinter lunges. Strong glutes will directly help to preventing low back pain. The third red flag for low back pain is the inability to stand

What happens if I may have overdeveloped developed glutes (women tell me I got ass since college) and a L4, L5 compression that gives me lower back pain and sciatica? I-m a former professional tennis player and coach so my lower body and muscles are stronger than most. My shoulders are shot from multiple labrum tears and surgeries. I-ve probably hit 5 million tennis balls and 1 million golf balls in my life at age 52. I-ve always been in shape my whole life and exercise five or six days a week (trail running in AZ hills, marathons, weights) but these injuries have forced me stop playing for the last 18 months. I feel a lot better but I want to get back at it! Suggestions on the back issues and sciatica? Thanks in advance.

I was in the Army for nearly 7 years and we did a lot of what are called -ruck marches-. It's military jargon for a long distance walk with a heavy bag on your back. We usually had other equipment too, but I wanted to emphasize that we generally had to lean forward slightly to compensate the weight on our backs. Do you have any recommendations for being able to continue doing these long distance walks with weight and avoid the anterior pelvic tilt?

I can say that last one is true for sure. It's comfortable to sit like that, but I'm paying for it now. I'm now more watchful of how I sit, and when I walk around normally, I'm putting a lot of effort into making sure my posture is okay. It's actually hard for me to stand up straight, and with my back against the wall, I can't quite make the back of my head head touch the wall. :( And my sciatic nerve tortures me daily.

I have 2 doubts.
I have 1) weak lower back
2) lack of flexibility in legs
3) history of backpain problem ( one day I was carried to a hospital from my college. I literally couldn't even lie down. The pain in my lower back was so excrutiating. will never forget that)
So, I have 2 questions:
1) what should I focus on first? Back or legs?
2) what to care of so as to avoid further backpain ' episodes'. ?

Dude. Thanks for these videos. I started lifting weights last month for the first time in over a decade. Trying to remember the exercises that I used to do and learn more about weight lifting, your videos are the most helpful and informative. I have struggled with back pain and display a few red flags myself. So I will be improving my Glutes and hip flexor based on your advice. Thanks again.

Thanks so much! I love learning about how my body works (or why it isn't at the moment)- this is so helpful because I really can't just run to a clinic every time my back hurts. The diagnostic tips are amazing! I feel exactly what you explain step by step and it helps me heal. You are not a -luxury- you are an essential for my daily work.
Thank you again!

Thank you once again Jeff. I've been suffering from low back pain for the past month or so because of my recent unfortunate weight gain. I'm trying to loose it, and I'll surely try out these methods tomorrow at the gym.
You've changed my life in many ways over the past 4 years, without even taking a cent from me, and I can't thank you enough for it.

Yo bro thank you so much. I was told I'd have to have surgery for a disk replacement, that's B's I didn't have to. I've been doing what you said and my back pain is almost gone. My foot pain is almost gone. Thank you bro. They even sent me to physical therapy and there methods won't doing anything but making it worse. Thank you bro. Your a life saver.
