This is the science of farts: where the gas actually comes from, why some of them could clear a room, and what yours are secretly telling you about your diet. We get into the good stuff - why carbs make the volume, protein makes the smell, and fat makes the grease plus why your protein farts smell like death, whether digestive enzymes are a scam (mostly, and the one thing that actually fixes it: fiber. It's fascinating. It's backed by actual studies (yes, scientists really did collect farts through a tube for 24 hours. Great vid man, as always.
Some things do come to mind though,
On Fiber
- The consumption of fiber being beneficial is heavily dependent on someone having both healthy stomach acid and a properly working MMC. If not then you're playing a dangerous game with getting SIBO. Many people unknowinlgy have some level of bacterial (or fungal) overgrowth in their small intestine and thus are causing absolute havoc in their small intestine where fecal species (that should be in the colon but are now overgrown in the small intestine because of a bad MMC) are now fermenting fiber in the small intestine (If you get bloated 30 mins after eating, this could be why) which also can lead to a bunch of other issues such as LPS leakage into the bloodstream or in general bacterial and toxin leakage into the bloodstream.
- The above is also not a fun game because leaky gut is how you might trigger autoimmunity.
On Probiotics
- Yes, Probiotics (in capsules or fermented foods) do not normally colonize the colon but that's not really the point of taking them. Probiotics (depending on the strain) have very strong impact on the various components of the gut barrier (especially the small intestine, the Immune system (Immunomodulatory effects, and in some cases being antimicrobial toward potentially unwanted bacterial/fungal species in the small intestine.
- Yea but the probiotics are killed in the stomach acid
- No, not all, especially if you are consuming large boluses of them in fermented foods since they are caught up in food matrix that assists survivability.
- No, not all, especially strains that are highly resistant to stomach acid (e. g. fungal probiotics or Spore based probiotics, which resist stomach acid.
- Sure, but even dead probiotics can have an impact on the Gut barrier and the Immune system (certain strains you buy are already dead e. g. Pylopass.

I'm going to push back on the Yogurt comment. The incidence of lactose intolerance has skyrocketed since the invention of the refrigerator and other than Asian communities that simply cant digest the stuff I believe that moving away from a diet consisting of mostly fermented dairy is the culprit. Weather it is from the fermentation prior to consumption, or to spores passing through the stomach to persist in the gut, I believe that our intestinal microflora was lato-protective for the last several thousand years and only now that we have sanitized our dairy supply have we lost that protection. Fiber might also be to blame as the SAD is woefully deficient so our microbiome is far less diverse than it should be, however that's a whole separate discussion that is likely contributing.
Edit: its also worth noting that Lactic Acid Bacteria (like those found in fermented dairy) ferment lactose without a gas biproduct however most coliforms (fecal organism) ferment lactose and produce H2 and CH4 which contribute to the feeling of bloating associated with lactose intolerance.

Try zero fiber, zero carbs for at least 4 days, and you will have zero gas. And you will continue to have zero gas until you reintroduced carbs and fiber. You will also lose muscle, but not a lot. You will keep all your lean muscle, and your 1 rep maxes will only drop a little bit in the long run. A lot in the short run.
Most ppl don't know this because they go crazy by day three with no carbs.

I am eating brown rice for the last 10 years or so. I never fart since then. Of course i will fart when i take a poop but outside that time, i never see myself farting in public.
By the way, bowel movement will be much better, you gonna poop at least 1 or 2 per day. Before i’m eating brown rice, as a girl, i poop every 2 days. But now, i poop everyday for the last 10 years of eating brown rice.

In my experience, and pretty much everyone I know, a high animal protein and low low carb diet drastically reduced the amount of poo and almost eliminated farts entirely. Smelly farts were completely eliminated. Which ( I fully admit to being too dumb to fully understand everything in this video) seems counter to most of what he said. I think.

I'd just like to thank Ryan for all the information he imparts. Most of the information we have been taught was supplied by corporate manufacturers of the products we consume. He comes down on himself for not having been more educated about these subjects, but that applies to a majority of people.

That yogurt and their probiotic are more than likely dead, so there's zero healthy microbes heading to build and strengthen their gut flora. Lactoferment your grains, beans, fruit, vegetables, and even raw dairy more often than not and you'll see a huge difference in your digestion.

My farts have been terrible. Have been eating oats with flax every morning for years now. Started drinking a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar before breakfast. And eating kimchi once a day. I fart less often but they’re still rank. I think I may need a little more fiber

If you want a good name for a dive bar trivia night team use the columns of Morgagni. They are the vertical mucous membrane folds in your anus that hold your turds in place when you fart so you do shit your pants. They help ensure your foops (fart over poop) are smelly.

Then there is just weird hit.
As on topic of lifting and farts and what you eat.
Turkesterone. I tried it. Had to stop, because I was not able to sneak a fart outdoors on windy day without causing indignation.
Just absolutely horrifying.

When i was a kid my buddies and I would pool our allowance and buy an Oh Henry and then throw it into the public pool. We would howl when we heard the whistle blow and the life guard tell everybody to get out of the pool.

So weird. I moved onto a carnivore diet 3. 5 years ago. It's not that I don't fart now, but it's far less frequent and the smell doesn't clear a room. This seems to run 180 degrees counter to your thesis

4 years ago, I halted all fiber intake. I now eat mostly eggs & beef, and my flatulence is near to none. I fart less than I ever have & don't have to deal with gut wrenching pain & constipation.
reply

Nope, everyone doesn't fart.
I haven't farted since I went carnivore in 2020.
6 years, no gas, no bloat, no farts.
Nature always had the answer, it was always meat.

Problem is, if the study was done in the Us, based on your food laws (allowing people to eat toxic shit that should be banned, you've probably got a good not what to have.

Ive noticed when i do a 1 month keto diet, i fart like 60% less and almost no smell. My joints stop hurting. Bit carbs taste sooo good, so I learned to live with my farts

9: 00 Respect for putting all the graphics and elements over your side of the screen at the end of the video. As dumb as you say you feel, you're actually a genius.

It’s insane how underrated book called TestoGenesis Protocol by Angelico still is. This is the kind of knowledge most guys don’t realize they’re missing.

Carnivores watching this and in the comments claiming they don't fart and it doesn't smell
these people are the absolute definition of influenced idiots

I love cottage cheese and I eat it before bed but as I finish it within minutes I have those pungent sulfur farts for some reason and nothing helps
