I want to point out that a crunch and a sit up are two different things and while Jeff was talking about crunches he was doing sit ups in the video. Crunches are an excellent exercise for targeting the first two compartements (if you do a powercrunch even the third one as well) but most people do the crunches incorrectly and this will cause problems with your lower back and you won't train your abs dynamicaly. This is why the crunch has a bad name.

This is just from personal experience. Ive been doing abs through yoga two times a week and then one day when I lift. I notice on leg day when I was doing the back squat well being sore and all that my core was active it probably isnt great for building abs but you do flex a little bit or you tighten up Ive also been trying to engage my core to increase my neural drive and rate of force. So my bad on the rant but this video helped out

Train abs 3 times x week and eat on a maintaince(to still get bigger without becominf fat. On a Volume day do 3 sets of 15-20 Weighted Crunches. on a mixed day do a 4x10 of Hanging Leg Raises. On an intensity day do weighted planks 3 sets of 15-20 seconds. do 2-3 sets of reverse hypers for 10-20 reps at the end of every workout. Your full core will be super thick, strong, and healthy. Enjoy. Of course induce progressive overload

I want to see a person trained by a PT from start to finish, in getting fit. I mean a person starting from being obese, all the way to looking like a beast. Anyone have a link to such a journey? It just doesn't have the same power, watching a person who has already achieved a fit body, as it would watching a bloke. or lass. starting from point A and ending at point Zed.

Crunches are not a situp - a situp, where the person flexes the lumbar spine under load, it's been clinically proved that those loads over time wil endeed break down the annulus of the lower back discs. This can the concluded by Dr. Stuart McGill in several studies with he's covered in several of his books, which I highly recommend.

I'm about 175cm/5. 8ft, 166lbs/75kgs, 25% BF. Lower belly not good. Trying to enter a daily deficit of about 500 calories, by doing keto + OMaD + 1 HIIT session + 5 sets of push ups + 5 sets of different abs exercises, everyday 6 days a week. How long you think till I get to 15% BF? What do you think of dry fasting btw?

Hormonal balance for better body fat distribution can be a big game changer too. Cortisol, testosterone, estrogen, and insulin all play vital role in visceral fat deposition or lipolysis. Keep your stress low, get enough sleep, drink enough water, eat your fiber, and consider taking something like maca root.

On the side bent, my gym instructor advised me to use only one dumbbell as having 2, you are constantly in balance which prevents the best activation of the obliques. I tried it and I can only advise to do it with only one dumbbell as I actually felt a tremendous difference in the activation of the obliques.
