The Most Scientific Way to Train CALVES (Science Explained)

The Most Scientific Way to Train CALVES (Science Explained) Fraudulent Earth: REALLY HEAVY Farmers walks and front load carrys. My favourite is stair climbs with a heavy backpack filled with weights or a weight vest. Start on step 1 and do 5 fully stretched reps then rest 10 secs before moving up a step and doing 6 reps. Repeat until you're at step 11 where you do 15 reps before working your way back down to step 1 where you finish on 5 reps. Do it barefoot so you get a full range of motion and flexion and pause for a second at both the top and bottom. You can also change the width of your stance as you go up and down. Start with feet together and work till your feet are the full width of the stair then work back in. You ONLY need to do this once a week because you calves will be sore for days after. You can do eccentric holds after to stretch the viscera and to remove stiffness. For seated calf raises if your gym doesn't have a machine you can use a leg curl station. Sit on the part of the station that you would normal lie face down on and face the pad that the backs of your feet/legs would go under during a leg curl. Place your feet on an exercise stepper and move your knees under the pad. Push the pad upwards using the power of your contracted calves then slowly lower for a full stretch. Word of warning: when you get to using a high weight stack you may need someone to sit on the opposite side of the station near the weight stack to prevent the machine from lifting.

Hello, I have a question about my calf growth if anyone can help me. I was born with clubbed feet which meant my feet came out backwards when I was born. When I was 1 years old I had surgery on both feet to get them the normal way around. I never had a problem after that but because of this I was left with extremely skinny calves and ankles, not proportionate to my upper legs or body. I have muscular upper legs and arms etc but my calves and ankles were extremely skinny. I had calf implant surgery almost a year ago and it did improve my calves a lot but my ankles and calves are still quite skinny compared to the rest of my body. I'm hoping that maybe workouts might improve this but I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's even possible for me to gain much muscle there since I have implants and my normal calves and ankles are naturally extremely skinny looking. Any advice would be really appreciated Thanks.

24 year transformation It doesn't take 24 years to grow muscle if that was the case then nobody would train. For pete's sake I stopped training for quite a few years and just started again and I am already growing my muscle back to where it was before I stopped training. Jeff you made a big mistake saying this. Who in hell would want to wait 24 years just to grow a muscle, If that was the case then it's piss poor genetics. I started when I was 15 and was growing muscle by the time I was in my second year of training and I am a natural lifter. I have good genetics and gain mass quite easily as I get them from my mothers side of the family and all her siblings are of the stocky type.

The secret was mentioned in the video, but never followed to its real implication, and that's this: Calves are slow twitch. I've had huge, rock hard calves three times in life: 1) High school cross-country 2) Addiction to Dance Dance Revolution and playing for 4hrs/day, 3days/week. 3) At an Army school at Fort Gordon there's Kill Hill which was very long and very steep and we'd race at full sprint upwards of 8-10x/day, 3 days/week. If you want huge calves, sprinting shit tons of steep hills will do it for you. Or, play a video game that has you flexing your calves intensely for hours on end. Don't do what Jeff suggests here; ) (Only time I'll ever say that lol)

Jab roids, do these techniques, and in 3 months you will have big calves. That 24 year transformation is 24 years of training and juice. The difference between fit and big is juice. The difference between fit bodybuilders, like franco colombo and frank zane from the 70's and the freaks of the 90's and 2000's is nothing more than more juice. Everyone loves Arnold including me, but look at his legs compared to let's say, Jay Cutler. The difference is juice. That's it. So, jab some juice, and grow your calves. I guarantee if you inject 500mg of test a week for 12 weeks and train your calves hard 1-2-3 times a week your calves will look great.

how much do you guys calf raise? I can do 220lbs for 15 reps (standing. to put some context into that I squat 70lbs for 12 same with deadlift, so yeah I have weak legs. I was wondering why my calves are so much stronger than all my other muscles when it's composed of mostly type one fibers which is supposed to be weaker. Do I have superhuman calves? I've only been training for a month and I'm not a big guy, I'm 5'7 120lbs. Can someone explain this?

Im a track athlete who only gets to go gym twice a week and my current calf workouts are Day 1: Standing calf raises (light weight high reps)Seated calf raises (heavy weight low reps)Day 2: Standing calf raises (heavy weight low reps) Seated calf raises (light weight high reps)So far ive made some pretty good results but then again my primary goal isnt bodybuilding. Someone give it a try and tell me what you think.

Jeff definitely got this one wrong. Soleus more important than many realize? Just no. You don't need to do seated calf raises, they get enough work from standing raises. Second, they're not likely to grow much no matter what, and even if they were, you probably shouldn't aim for it anyway due to aesthetic reasons. (I refer to comments Mike Israetel and Sean Nalewanyj have made in their videos.

24 years is absurd amount of time considering how long it takes for someone to add inches to other parts of their body. Even if calves don't respond as well. That dude had to be doing his shit wrong, cause thats way to long for such little results you would expect in that time. I plan on doing weight lifting my whole life, but that is a depressing amount of years to have shit calves.

The calves are not harder to grow there just as difficult a muscle to grow than any other. Ive always had conditioned calves from sports as a youth i decided i would make my calves grow. I trained them 5 days a week before every training session, giant sets no rest between sets, 15 sets in a row. My calves are jacked now. Nothing fancy just hard work.
