The Most Effective Science-Based LEG WORKOUT Science Applied (12 Studies) Chas Lewis: I really like this program for leg day, especially with a really functional move like walking lunges which contributes to a strength building exercise as well as a dynamic movement that trains balance and while on the move instead of just being rooted with some of the bigger compound lifts. Although, I have to say with the accessory lifts I agree more with Jeff Cavalier that any movement (and I'm probably butchering this) where you trap a muscle group, especially with significant weight, you are more prone to injuring that area. I had problems with my knees at one point due to quad extensions. I'm sure there's a lot of people out there that swear by accessory lifts like these, but I personally don't care for them. I feel you should always build your accessory lifts around those that allow for full range of movement for the area you are targeting even if you risk activating some of the surrounding muscle groups. I like to think of doing a lift by equating it to real life movement, if I can't see myself doing the lift in real life, I probably shouldn't do it.

So I do a good variety of lifting with my leg workouts. I definitely do some heavy for a time, while eating a surplus of calories and hitting all my macros and then some. But my legs just dont grow. my upper body has seen growth and change but my legs just dont seem to move at the same momentum. Granted, my legs have definitely grown since Ive been working out for the past 6 years, but its just not happening. Ive used creatine and mass gainer and make sure I have plenty of water. I do varieties as well. so after about 8 weeks Ill do higher reps and more volume to keep the intensity up and then move to a lighter weight for a couple of weeks and then change it back up. So I do foundationally, squats and deadlifts. but I also throw in different varieties of lunges, leg presses, hack squats, leg extensions and leg curls. Also with standing, seated and leg press calf raises. Still the same. Also I am getting sore. Definitely putting the work in and my diet is on point.

Regarding butt wink and the structural camp, amongst other factors repeated (comparative) heavy loading at end of anatomical range may contribute to, or be causative in the precipitation of Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI. Consideration of this may well be an argument for not going below horizontal, especially as in the US surgery for hip impingement increased 1800% between 2003-2013. (Significant in this increase of surgery was the failure to adequately diagnose early and conservatively treat FAI, however, it does demonstrate the increasing magnitude of the problem) Just because many have the hip structure that will tolerate repeated, deep, loaded hip flexion, it doesn't mean that everyone does. It seems that a lot of people do not have this robust structural configuration, and are therefore vulnerable to developing FAI.

Ive noticed clients tend to feel more butt with the wide stance Squat. It just seems less advantageous for the quads to do the majority of the work from that position. Im a little confused though. If studies show that a wider stance shows more Glute activation and quads dont really matter in regards to foot width; wouldnt a narrow stance naturally be more quad dominant? Because on a wider stance, if the Glute is more engaged to work hip Extension; wouldnt that require less quad loading for knee Extension?

Thank you so much for this series of PUSH PULL LEGS. It helped me going back on gym after quiting it for 2 months because of the lack of time cause i'm in my senior year. But i still have one question, what is your opinion about doing this push pull and legs just once per week? I don't think i can go to the gym more than 3 times per week so that's why i am asking this. Thank you so much for the effort you are putting in these workouts: )

hey jeff. I would like to tell you that I am following you for a long time now but some times I can't do some exercises for example 1: 26 to 3: 33 its quite hard for me, I am a beginner, during this exercise I used the wights first only the bar then, 2, 5kg, then I added 5, 0 kg so the last set was 7, 5kg. I had the feeling that I am losing control. what shall I do next time? thank you a lotAlessandro

let me start out by saying I have watched like 50 of his videos and think that the content is excellent. However, I am not quite sure I understand him. He knows so much yet he's overweight in almost every video. Plus shorter guys tend to have the appearance of huge arms and legs. I dunno man let me see a video of you with abs not just a picture. I think his pictures are highly edited. SHOW DEM ABS HOMIE

Hey man I have a question. Lets take the first exercise, the squatting as an example. You say that you should use the same weight for all 3 sets doing 4-6 reps but with 7-8 Reps in the tank. In the video you added weight 3 times I believe. So are you doing like 2 warm up sets and then 3 real sets meaning 5 sets in total but with 2 warm ups. Kind of like doing the pyramid technique going upward?

Most physical therapists will tell you to avoid Leg Extensions. Yes it builds the quads, but puts excess and unnecessary strain on the knee. This workout is enough without them. But, yeah maybe you do them all the time and get away with it, long term it might just catch up with you though. Videos and literature are out there explaining in detail why leg extensions aren't the best idea.

Hey Jeff. Excellent videos my man. I have just started the first week of this program. Just wondering if you, or anyone could help? I have 2 questions. How long should my rest times be between sets and exercises? I've been resting for 1 minutes 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Also how long would you stick with this workout program for? Any help would be appreciated.
