Building mass is all about making slow and steady progress. And to be able to track progress properly, we usually stick to the same tried-and-true exercises. But while these familiar lifts are essential for building a good muscular foundation, they may not be the most effective or sustainable anymore. The years of pounding your joints through the same ranges of movement might have led to nagging pains, dysfunctional movement patterns, or even injuries. Or maybe, mentally, your training has grown stale from doing exactly the same things over and over again; so, it’s harder to push yourself and you end up with diminishing gains. It's times like these when exploring unconventional compound lifts can breathe new life into your training program. In today's video, we share 5 highly-effective mass building exercises you’re not doing, but should be!

At nearly 60, my body can't handle the tough lifting any longer. I get injured as soon as I try to lift heavy. Had to take it down a lot of notches after giving my body rest to heal. My body just couldn't take it. Sadly. Love lifting heavy and push myself. But those days are over. Just have to try to make the best of what I have now with this old fragile body. Light weights and many reps, and good form. It's better than nothing.

Bulgarian Split Squats did more for my legs than ANYTHING. I feel everyone has that one or two exercises for each body part that really WORKS. It’s your job to find them.

At 65 I do compound lifts. I find machines are safe, but I get very little gain, size a d strength. Progressive overload. I have plates that are low as 1. 25lb. Thank you
