A look back at a former King Kong attraction aboard the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood with all its practical effects. Nowadays many of Universal rides are 3D projection-typed ride. Found this video on my computer and decided to post it, so you guys can see how great Universal Studios used to be when they used to have this ride featuring a huge animatronic King Kong. King Kong Encounter was an attraction formerly part of the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood. The scene, located amongst the New York Street backlot sets in the heart of the studios, was destroyed by a massive fire in 2008, and was replaced by King Kong: 360 3-D, which was opened on 1 July 2010 - Wikipedia By the way, there will be a huge animatronic King Kong in the new Skull Island Reign of Kong at Universal Orlando Islands of Adventure

the problem i have with what universal is doing is that it can never feel real. it can never feel like im actually in another world. the new king kong is cool. but no amount of 3d covers up the fact that it's just a screen. its sad to see Disney slowly moving towards this to. the last thing we need is a place like universal that went from riding the movies. to watching the movies. and what about the physical rides that remain? well they are in such bad shape and such bad condition its like theyre trying to find a reason to shut them down. jurassic park in hollywood is looking terrible. mummy has effects breaking 24/7. its just sad to me. the first time i went to universal was the last year of physicality over virtualization. and its been so sad to just see what theyve done to this charming theme park just because its less maintenence. its almostlike that fire was the beginning of the end of what universal was.

Here's the problem: universal studios theme parks used to shout Ride The Movies It was all about feeling like you were in a movie. But now every attraction (apart from some surviving gems like Jurassic Park) is about staring at a screen (in blurry 3d. So all you're doing is watching a movie anyway. I want to see something real. I miss the days of Jaws, Kong, Bttf and Earthquake. How long before the Florida version of ET gets destroyed? To make way for a cartoon (like Minions) or something forgettable like Transformers?

its kinda funny how i saw this attraction on yt the other day while watching Little Heroes 2, xD it's the scene where the dogs Samson and Hercules trap Carny & Slick in this attraction, bc this was filmed USH in d/early 2000s. it was big news back then when the sequel was getting made. xD i love the second movie to Little Heroes (LH2) bc this attraction reminded me of that scene in the film. it was so funny and still is. ofc there were other attractions. but d/kingkong 1isd1 i remember well.

I remember when it was the Volcano ride, and you were supposedly going through a spinning lava tube. Our tram got stuck in there for about 45 minutes due to some kind of failure, and while it was funny at first (people would toss water bottles and watch the spinning tube lift it up and up and up, and then watch it rattle back down again to below the tram, repeat) later on when people started getting nauseous and heaving over the side and it started dripping down onto the roof Not so much.

That was a lovely trip down memory lane. It's a shame that the fire burned the whole sound stage that King Kong was in down. The new one is okay. I just wish that the park wasn't just a crap ton of 3d rides. The only time I go to the park now is for Horror Nights. These were classic times. Don't miss the old Mummy thing though, I also felt sick after lol.

It's such a shame that all of Universal's new rides are: pitch black, 3d screen, pitch black whip you in the darkness, another 3d screen, whip around in darkness around some more, another 3d screen. I was so disappointed with the Gringot's ride. The que is 100x better than the ride itself.

Does anybody know if at Universal studios Hollywood, they still have the House of horrors, I went in it back in 2007 but I haven't gone to Universal since then so I don't know if its still there or not.

I got to ride this twice in my life time. They just don't made the rides like this anymore. I miss the awesome Que line. and the special effects. ( The Orlando Version btw. Never rode the one in Hollywood. )

I miss this, even though I was very young to even remember it, but I also remember the BTTF ride and I was 7 when that closed down. Good riddance to the Mummy tunnel, though, never liked that one.
