The Suez Canal was not just a man-made creation. 4 shortcut in the travel of ships But it was also a great political device. Prior to the building of the Suez Canal that which is what was known as the Middle East what's considered part of Africa? But when Europeans and others with the cooperation I'll be a Gyptian government. Push forward with the building of the Suez Canal all these countries that claimed to be the Middle East took ownership. From a geological standpoint every country from Israel. 2 Egypt to Iran Afghanistan And others still technically set on What's called the African tectonic plate. .

Thank you for posting this video. I've always wanted to sail on a big ship like this. I don't want to go on one of those giant cruise ships with thousands of other people. I'd hate it but this sort of thing I would love! I live near a big UK port and often take the bus to just stand and watch the ships coming and going.

Even more crazy is that it was built in just 10 years. With pretty crude machines and tools for the time, with plenty of workforce (some forced slaves tho) initially and in second half of construction period with very novel for its time steam powered machines.

Very interesting, thanks. Only watching as have paused Episode 1 of Series 2 of The Crown on Netflix, which deals with the Suez crisis of 1956. If you change the speed to 0. 25 here on settings, it makes the view more enjoyable. Thanks Jeff for posting.

Yeah the suez canal is a marvel, fun fact, did you know the engineers of the suez canal didnt ever take the curve of the earth into account when cutting it? Have you seen it from the sky? It's a flat body of water for 120 miles.

Hi Jeff. Came across your videos and they are just incredible. Just wondering if you create timelapse with images or direct videos. As it would be difficult to keep camera still during night for long shutter shots.

Good video. I have made the transit 4 times with the U. S Navy. I forget how amazing a place it is. How many cartons of cigarettes did you have to Pay-off to the pilots? DD
