You couldn't pay me to go to Brazil! My former boss, a native Brazilian, went to visit his family back home a couple of years ago and was drugged on the bus that was taking him to his village. Apparently someone put something in his sealed water bottle. When he woke up he was in an empty field, in the middle of nowhere, with all his belongings stolen. He went to the local police station to file a report and they told him it happens all the time. One time they drugged an entire bus full of tourists by putting something in the oranges they were handing out and then robbed them all! There are plenty of places that are safer than Brazil with nice beaches: Try the Caribbeans, Hawaii, California, Greece, Italy, France etc.

My don'ts for Rio: 1) don't think the slums are a touristic place. It's a serious social problem and it's not funny. It would be like trying to have fun in Skid Row LA.
2) Don't trust taxi drivers! Install UBER or 99taxi and you will be fine.
3) Don't leave the touristc area. The touristic area in Rio is a make believe area, where violence is at some point under control. Outside that, good luck: something bad will happen to you sonner or later.

Brazil is not only Rio. Brazil is the 5th large country in the world with a many landscapes and cultures and food, music. The beachs in northest is like caribean beach without hurricanes, the center wes has a large savana, the north has a rain florest, the south has a pampas. Each place has a diferente culture and diferent people with one singularity, the portuguese.

My lifelong dream is to play football on a beach in Brazil. i have always wanted to visit, ever since we learned about the country in highschool. Recently with all the negative report has made me weary, however, these past couple of days i have been doing some research and watching many videos. Thank you for making me more comfortable of my choice to visit in 2021

The friendliest big city I've ever been to. it has its challenges and I've done things the locals warn you NOT to do. however I've never had a problem and I've been there 3 times. Treat people with respect, learn some Portugese and the local slang. Exercise a bit of caution and you will have a GREAT time.

5: 19 brazilian winter bikini? What? There is not such a thing! And, by the way, this is really huge for brazilians standarts, I mean. young people don't use it this big, maybe older people will do.
A bikini is a bikini, there is not some special one for winter time.

Rio is clearly not the safest city. But I would never let my guard down in most big cities just because they are in developed countries, like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris and London. Keep your eyes open is a good tip for most places in the world.

I felt safest at Copacabana walking alone, unshaven in my swimsuit- dressing down. My buddy and his girlfriend got mugged in Ipanema, dressed like tourists. If you can, avoid Rio (expensive, crowded) and go to Florianopolis (cheaper, safer.

I just spent a couple weeks in Brazil in (October 2020) and it was wonderful. The south zone is very safe, even at night and my only real fear was getting run over by a bus. Cars and buses wont even slow down for you so be careful.
