The Capital of Spain, Madrid has a ton of amazing tourist sights to ShiFang89: I was there last summer and what shocked me was there were bicycles and scooters for rent everywhere. This is a great way to escape from the center and see other places in the city.
On the other hand, and talking about temperatures, Madrid is cold in winter because it is at 660m above sea level but it isn't too cold. It is common to have 5 to 10 Celsius degrees during daytime and drops to 1 or 2 degrees at night. For example, NYC is colder than Madrid being at the same latitude and at sea level. I would recomend May as the best season to visit Madrid. In May is the festival of San Isidro. The city is full of activities and events this week and the visitor would have the opportunity to go to the traditional verbenas, free concerts or food degustations, etc.

I know its Spain, but considering it's the Capital and they have so much tourism I was shocked how few people spoke English. Examples.
1. My bag got lost at the airport and neither the woman on my airlines baggage reclaim, the man at lost and found or the police officers spoke any English.
2. Travelling into Madrid the taxi driver, hotel staff or waiter in the restaurant spoke very basic English so definitely pack a phrasebook.
3. Travelling from Madrid to Pamplona nobody at the train station or on the train spoke English.
Also if you tell people (in Spanish) that you don't speak Spanish they will just ignore you and carry on talking to you anyway Gorgeous city though! Amazing food, and the indoor food market was the highlight!

I grew up in Madrid. I CAN tell you that they eat LATE
DINNER is usually 8 or 9 p. m. Gazpacho is a tomato cucumber based soup that is served COLD and yes, I CAN make it. They have a siesta in the afternoon. They aren't a real rush rush society like the USA is. Yah, they are big smokers. They like their Sat a. m. coffee shops. Bullfights were televised 3x a week. Sangria is pretty good
Paella, well you need to find a little old lady that CAN make it homemade.

Fortunately I speak Spanish so I get a lot of good info from cab drivers, and one of them told me that Spanish police officers are very honest. Although the paella in Madrid may not be the best, the seafood in general is very fresh. Ive been to Vigo on the west coast which has huge seafood processing facilities, and by about 0300, the seafood is processed and on the road. People say that the best fish is sent to Madrid because they pay the highest prices.

I was in Europe during 2019. The most beautiful cityes for me the first one Paris and the second one Madrid. Madrid has a Strange mix of the elegance of Paris (the Salamanca district is great, the boulevards near Retiro park, the urban atmosphere of New York ( gran via or espania plaza) and off course the spanish culture. Incredible city an absolute and total surprise for me.

We will be going to Madrid(February) for the second time and I'm looking up to it. I will like to watch a game in the Bernabeu and look forward to the museums. We will be going outside of Madrid to look at the small town but don't know where to go yet. Any suggestion?

Of course it's cold in the winter especially in the mountains 40kms north of Madrid where we have the ski slopes. July and August are very hot and dry, nice. One thing the city has all year round the air is very heavily polluted from exhaust fumes.

Do not order paella in Madrid, unless you land in the right restaurant after a search on the net. If you want to taste paella go to Valencia.
Callos or cocido are the dishes to order in Madrid.

The thing you need to be careful with is hygiene and how they store/keep the food in some of the restaurants and bars. I've lived here for 6yrs and I've had food poisoning too many times here now.

If you are going to get paella, I would recommend going to Valencia (where it originally came from)
And seafood paella isnt really paella, authentic paella normally has chicken and rabbit in it
