I think with rechargeable batteries, (I don't know much about batteries so this may be wrong) when you recharge a rechargeable battery you reverse the electric current through the battery. Recharging it reverses the chemical reaction through the battery causing it to be charged. It can only be recharged so many times until it does wear down. Now, what the rechargeable battery is completely made of, I don't know: / it could be the same (it has to have an anode and a cathode (the metals) and an electrolyte (the chemical solution) I think, but I would think it would have to be somewhat different. Or perhaps the structure inside it is different? If anyone knows, it would be great if you could share!

I'm so glad you decided to go back to learning Japanese! It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time, but always felt intimidated, especially by learning the different alphabets. You mentioned it a couple weeks ago, and that inspired me to start learning. I can write all of the hiragana characters and some katakana, and I can sloooowly sound out words written in hiragana. Duolingo has started throwing some kanji into the mix, but I'm determined! Best of luck to you too!

Inside a battery you have the negative (anode) and the positive (cathode) side with an electrolyte between. The process that makes the battery discharge is the movement of electrons from the negative side to the positive side, creating the current. The process that causes this movement of electrons can be reversed by the application of an external electric potential. So when you're recharging a battery, you force electrons to go the opposite way with a power source.

Lava lamps are so cool! I could legit stare at one for hours! My favorite is the green & blue lamps or the red & purple lamps. I had one of those lava lamp toys as a kid that had 2 sides of different lava and when you turned it upside down, the colors would switch sides & bubble I guess you call it to the other side. Those were cool and something to do when bored.

I felt super called out when Tim was talking about the dangerous parts inside of TVs because my friend and I once found a big box TV abandoned in the woods and disassembled it with a crowbar and screwdrivers to see what was inside. Super fun until we realized we might be on private property and almost ran into barbed wire while running back to her house! :D

So a battery stops working when them the chemical elements inside of the battery runs out and there is no more chemical energy to be transferred into electric energy where as rechargeable batteries store energy through a reversible chemical reaction, which can charge to be stored again after the battery has been drained
