I love the Keys, been going there since like 1978. That said I was just there for a week and just want to say how unwelcoming the local governments are right now down there. They shouldn't be advertising right now for tourism when most of the beaches, local parks, boat ramps, state parks and kayak launches are shut down even though in perfect working order. Also the bars are closed. I understand the virus is spreading but it sucks to spend money on a trip down there and see so many things shut down. Launching a kayak or boat is not spreading the virus. This all all easily fixed by the local governments down there and the keys can easily be a tourist paradise again but they need to stop shutting down access to activities that have nothing to do with spreading the virus.

Never use Expedia/Hotels. com or any other Expedia owned company. They owe thousands of dollars to customers and hotels, including 2, 500 to myself. They have profited from Covid-19 cancellations. Take a look at their Twitter account to see the complaints. I've used Hotels. com for years but never again. My hotel was closed but Hotels. com won't refund. This is illegal behaviour here in Australia as they were unable to provide the service paid for. A class action lawsuit is now beginning in Australia. In future get the best price for your chosen hotel online and then call the hotel directly, they will match the price. Expedia are a bunch of liars and thieves and deserve to go bust.

Living in Florida, the Keys are a must do. Been many times and must add Southernmost Point. Many great dining options. Take a jet ski tour around Key West and stop at amazing sand bars. Check out the Butterfly Conservatory. It's wonderful. Best beach is Smathers Beach because it's less crowded and you'll see Eagle Rays. The Keys are like a child who has an American father and Caribbean mother. Depending on traffic it's a three and a half to four plus hours drive from Miami to Key West. That drive on a clear day, you'll never forget. Enjoy!

A Cuban-American icon, The San Carlos Institute located at 516 Duval Street in the heart of Key West is MUST SEE and is awesome for history! Now a FREE museum (they accept donations and I always donate, its a great find and arguably one of the most beautiful buildings in Key West. Cuba has a lot of tied history with the USA, especially in Key West. Here you will see artifacts, art, documents, and other historical Cuban and Cuban American pieces. Devote about 30 mins to an hour and you wont regret it.

Who would want to travel to the Florida Keys, let alone the rest of the USA in the next year, if not two? Out of country medical coverage will not be granted to the USA.
