The Big Buddha, and complex is really interesting plus there are wonderful local views from the hilltop. There's a little restaurant here with good food for lunch (about $2. USD as of 2025. The profits go to the students in adjacent school.
The White Temple is amazing, to be sure, and so is the free art gallery there produced by the same incredible artist responsible for The Temple.

i had been to chiang rai in 2010 and i loved the white wat rong khun temple. wat rong khun is the trending start of building small replicas including the one at Danok in southern Thailand close to the Malaysian border and another one at Wat Lampam in the neighbouring Kedah in northern Malaysia. i can say that chiang rai is home to the unique temples after the completion of the blue temple in the town centre.
