Although you say goeco is cheaper than others they still have programs that charge 1000 a week plus to volunteer. That is too much for me. Workaway or Worldpackers are good websites to find volunteering positions. Givingway. com has some cheaper programs. Trustedhousesitters is a good website if you want to live but not work/volunteer at a place (besides housework. There are short term contract for TEFL that can last 5/6 months or just pick a contract that doesn't penalise you for breaking your contract early.

If you do not have a unique skill that can actually benefit the local communities you should not volunteer abroad. Just traveling and spending money on food, accommodations, and activities will help their economy more than taking unskilled work away from the locals.

Avoid Lion petting farmsBottle feeding lions/ lion walksAnd elephant ridingDo plenty of research before choosing a volunteer project, not all are beneficial to the wildlife. In fact some are scams for paying tourists.
