Of course you don't think it is that bad because you survived it without a mishap. You'd probably wouldn't be feeeling that way if there had been some sort of problem. But what really amazes me about you is how well you stood that freezing hotel room in Lukla. I could not have put up with that for one instant. I can't stand the cold.

Did a little research. The airport opened in 1964 and wasn't paved until 2001. Of all the accidents in the airport's history, there was only one crash where non-crew passengers were killed. The vast majority of the incidences ended with no fatalities--with moderate to no injuries and little to severe damage to the planes.

You should of jumped on a Helicopter tour that goes to the Everest Basecamp and brings you back Stopping at some unbelievable sites. The Views are Awesome and gives you the true sense on just how small we are. I don't know if you noticed but did you see the size of those boulder's 12: 26 off to the left of the Runway?

Hi Noel, thank you for an interesting report. For some reason, I was missing your typical and usually informative LOO CHECK both on the Twin Otter and the Let410.
Too bad you found your night in the hotel very chilly. You certainly wouldn't like to spend a night at the Ice hotel somewehere in northern Finland.

You took a life-and-death gamble going out for a walk like you did. You might have succumbed to altitude sickness. Ypu could have fainted and fallen, gotten a concussion on one of those big rocks, disappeared down the mountain, broken bones, maybe have to eat your own fractured leg to survive.

Video and pictures just dont do that place justice. Our tallest peak in the UK is 4413ft which is bloody high but that plane is taking off from an elevation off 9337ft flying past mountains that be as high as triple that figure its just absolutely nuts!

As a Pilot, i love short field landings so would feel ok landing there. What does worry me is the steepness and losing power as i taxing uphill and perhaps sliding backwards which is not natural for a plane or your training!

Lukla must b an interesting place to visit. what does the meal look like up there? For someone who don't eat meat how would that place cater to someone with special diet? Is there a shower at hotel? What are the women lik3 up there?

Hello noel. I tried a flight to lukla in 1989, so much delays and we finaly got away after 3 days waiting but we had to turn around almost at lukla. To much wind. Whats the name of your Kathmandu hotel?

Noel, I am sure you know that the very aircraft you departed in from Lukla, 9N-AMG, a Let 410 was involved in a dual engine failure/shutdown on 22 March 2020. Luckily they landed safely.

So nostalgic watching this! Flew into Lukla in October 2011 (last flight in for nearly a week, due to bad weather) and flew out a month later after going up Mera Peak. Happy days.

I flew to Lulkla April 2010 for the Base Camp hike. Dreaded the flight, but was a trip of a lifetime in the end.
You should fly from KTM to Paro. thats equally scary!
