Porto, Portugals second city, is a bit stressed out. Its beloved Bolho Market had gotten really dilapidated and, earlier this year, it was closed for a much-needed renovation. The vendors with a firm promise that theyd be back home in July of 2020, and with the reassuring presence of their Virgin of the Immaculate Conception are carrying on in the basement of a nearby department store. and so are those shopper-merchant relationships that literally go back generations. Excellent! I was there yesterday morning, and purchased so much food for my temporary apartment home on Rua Formosa that I will probably only dine in Porto once before I leave, at Restaurante Abadia. The fishmonger who said hello to Rick was the same one who sold me two salmon fillets, for 5, 00! The market is fabulous, with fresh foods, friendly people, and unbelievably low prices.
